    3. Bettye, A very good thought. Other things we need to remember in that time frame are... 1. On the average one in four children died before their first birthday. 2. Disease such as measles, typhus and diphtheria were often lethal, especially to the very young and elderly. 3. Children who died in infancy left gaps in the birth order, but often were unnamed or the names were lost with time. 4.
