While this does not have to do directly with Maupin research, I put it on this List because their may be those who are new to the Internet and can use the following website to check out real viruses vs hoax viruses. One thing to remember: A good anti-virus program will catch most viruses, but if that program is not updated frequently by going to the website of the software manufacturer, it may be to no avail. While Navidad is a real virus, many of the messages received concerning viruses are hoaxes. The following site gives details about the Navidad virus and from it I have copied what it says. http://w3.gwis.com/~jrich92/hoaxes.htm "Navidad virus/worm continues to worry many computer users. It is more of a threat if you work in a large company on a big network, than for individual users. This is a real virus, but it is of only moderate concern. But you don't need an antivirus software package to detect this one. Just delete any email with an attachment that reads "zipped_files.exe" or "NAVIDAD.EXE" . It only spreads if you have Outlook Express. Don't open email attachments unless it was something you were expecting, further always scan attachments for viruses before opening them. If you practice safe computing then it should not be a problem. Please read section V below to see how you can protect yourself from this and other computer viruses." Hope this is of help to the List. Phyllis J.
