His wife was Elizabeth"Lizzie"Gill . They married in Carter Co.,KY Had 9 children. His father before him was George Moppin b. 1857 d.? married Emma Sanders in Owen Co.,KY. Rumor is that George was hanged as a young man under age 30 , a victim of local mob violence. Possible charge horse stealing? Emma Moppin later remarried to J.W.McDaniel. Madge, you need to check the 1860 Federal Census of Kentucky, starting with Owen Co. since there is a good chance he was born there as well as being married there. Look for a Maupin (don't forget variable spellings) family who has a 2 or 3 year old George. Census records are a very good start in looking for your ancestors.
