I can't compare pictures as I've never seen a photo of John Rice Maupin. As to whether it's Thomas or Thompson --- I have no idea. The author seems to be a stickler for details but anyone can get a spelling wrong. Pat: Just remembered that one of the pages I copied to you was army correspondence about killing of Thomas Maupin as on of Quantrill's "gang".
