When I first started looking for my husband's Maupins, and people on this list would say oh yes, that's so and so -- we have that line back to the 1600s, and i'm thinking yeah right how could they possibly know? totally amazing! How could it be that there weren't/aren't more people with that name still immigrating from wherever & thru the years?? Does anyone have contact with current Maupins in other countries?
I think that what Bill meant was that "SO FAR, all that have been identified, go back to Gabriel and Maria (Hersent) Maupin," with the exception of the New Yorkers. The chances are 99.9% that every Maupin you find in the phone books go back to Gabriel and Maria, but there is always the outside chance that a few don't. It is a fascinating thought that one couple were the start of the vast majority of Maupins in the US, not to mention those of us who do not carry the name! Good evening!!! Correction!! The two Maupins in New York are descendants of Daniels brother Gabriel of Williamsburg. They are the only two Maupins by name left on this line.
