    3. Just for something to think about: You know the old fashioned calling cards that people used to give out? Well I have a small collection of them that belonged to my Great-Grandmother, who was a Maupin and one of them is a hand-made, or hand drawn card with the name as "Mr. Moppen". Not sure who "Mr. Moppen" was, but I bet he was a relative somehow, and yet the name is spelled different. AH,and yet another mystery........ Leanna

    3. Moppen looks like it might be a phonetic spelling variation of the French pronunciation. A French woman, about 45 years ago, addressed my mother as Mrs. Maupin and pronounced Maupin as mo-peene. The woman was a nurse in a doctors office and called into the waiting room for Mrs. Mo-peene. She repeated it several times because no one was responding and was even a little irritated about it. Finally, Mom realized she must mean her and she did. (chuckle, chuckle) That was our first clue to a French pronunciation.
