    3. 'de' means "FROM". Many names from the Normans had 'de', even after they 'conquered' England. This included those born in England, after William the Conqueror. One name in my children's ancestry is "BOLLING" .. which was originally 'de BOLLING', indicating "FROM the BOLLING Castle". Don Havlicek
