Good Afternoon!! Thank you for this information. It is very helpful to know the effective date of the Census, however, the dates do vary because of the lenght of time it took to acturally take the Census. I went to a seminar years ago given by the National Archives, they pointed out and explained the census taking in this way. What we see on the micro film is in most cases the third copy of the actual census. The original taken by the person at each home was to be filled out "COMPLETELY" NO ABBREVIATIONS AND ALL ITEMS WERE TO BE FILLED IN. This copy was taken to the county seat and a copy was made and left there, and a copy was made of this copy and sent to the Federal Government. That is why there are so many errors, it was copied twice after the first entry. In some cases people got tired of writing and started abbreviating etc. William----- Original Message ----- From: Pat <celtic@ticnet.com> To: <MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 16, 2000 11:32 AM Subject: Re: [MAUPIN-L] Free Ancestry.Com > Here is something interesting I thought maybe others would like to know.
