Sandi, Why don't we just start a My.Family site for MAUPIN- that way all Maupin descendants can add their lines to it. And then- we can start up the separate branch sites. Outlines of each members line can be posted to the site- and then the sharing can begin. Just a suggestion to get it started. Linda ( a descendant of Gabriel Maupin and Ann Ballard)
In my humble opinion, considering the enormity of the amount of data that covers the entire descendancy of the Maupins, I would suggest there be a MyFamily.com website for each of the children of Daniel Maupin and his wife Margaret Via. If a Maupin descendant wants to visit websites for other children of Daniel and Margaret, it is easy enough to ask for an "invite" here on the list, if you do not know who the administrator is in order to ask them. I administer two MyFamily.com websites for the purpose of sharing my research. I figure I can't take it with me, and to get involved in publishing hard copies is more work than uploading, although I have made hard copies for my family. The Maupin section from my personal family history book is at the website for anyone who cares to download it and read it. (Again, my theory is, I can't take it with me, but I will haunt anyone who publishes it and claims it is theirs!) This Maupin section is primarily of interest to those who descend through Jesse and Lucy, as I do. As previously mentioned, Mosias is not covered as he and his brood are so extensive and much research has been performed by others. I did include the descendants of some of the other children of Jesse and Lucy because I had the information and perhaps no one else does. Again, it is a way of sharing it with present and future researchers. The MyFamily.com websites are semi-private in that another member must invite you to join. (Although I've browsed other MyFamily.com websites by having a member send me a copy of a notice to a new addition of material at the particular website.) Sandi mentioned she personally will not put her lineage on a MyFamily.com website because it will end up on the Ancestry.com CDs and who knows what else. If Ancestry's claims are correct, this will happen only if you check the box when you are making the upload. So, if you do not want this to happen, DO NOT check the box giving permission for them to use the GEDCOM. Trusting that the GEDCOM will not be published further than the website, I have uploaded data no more recent than my grandmother. This gives some security for the data of the most recent generations. A downside of having your GEDCOM there for others, is that I've discovered my copious notes are cut off at a certain point. Apparently there is a limit to how much of the notes is put on the website. I know there is a limit as to how much material can be at the website, and while this is a generous amount, I can visualize it not being enough if ALL the Maupin descendants starting uploading their material to ONE Maupin MyFamily.com website. Perhaps a solution to the hesitancy of persons to put their lineage on the website could be solved by making a note as to whether or not they are willing to share a GEDCOM file. What I have done with the two websites for which I am administrator, is to use the "Recipes" section for "Brief Lineages," i.e., the names only of each generation from whom that person descends. In the "Title" one could add "(GEDCOM available)" if they were willing and able to share one. (If you haven't already figured this out, there are "Givers" and there are "Takers" in this world of ours.) It is simple to start a new website. Visit mine and there with just a click of the mouse you can start your own MyFamily.com website. Everyone uploads their own material. You may have to occasionally explain things to those who don't quite understand something, but most people are able to handle this as it is quite simple. Believe me, if starting this site was going to take a lot of my time, I would not have done it, as "time" is my most precious possession. These are just some ideas for those who are considering starting a MyFamily.com website for the purpose of sharing material on that particular line of Maupins. If you have any further questions, I am sure Sandi or I could probably answer them for you. Phyllis J.
