    3. Hi Donna, I was wondering if you had any further information on John McWilliams. My research shows McWilliams in Albemarle and I am doing more extensive research on his line. I do have the Cleveland line as much as it is. Do you have any further ideas or information? I believe that John's father was also named John McWilliams, but I have not made the tie in for sure with any documentation. All that you would share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Even if you're a Huguenot, I don't think you can just show up at their mtgs unless you have gone through the form application process having your papers, etc. I could be wrong, though. Do you know for sure that people can just show up at the mtgs? The places where the Manakins meet is pretty small. 3. From what I understand the Fulton Reunions are potluck and they are casual. The ones in VA, however, were research based, with lectures from people about the region in France where the Maupins came from, where they landed in VA, where they settled, etc, including a lot of documentation about how counties had morphed into other counties. The Fulton Reunion seems to be (and I have never been to one) a yearly thing, whereas the VA reunions were three day events with several formal dinners/lunches in the hotel that was booked, etc. One speaker was the Historian from UVA, where Dr. Soctrates Maupin was Chairman of the Faculty, and there have been many other distinguished speakers. It was held in the Rotunda of UVA, which is almost never allowed for outside groups. It is wholly different than Fulton which I think is an outdoor event. Denise and all: I see no reason why a VA reunion can't also be casual. Denise, since you have been to all the formal VA reunions and know so much about them, how about doing the planning. You are there. Just a thought. Sandi

There is nothing wrong with a potluck and getting together for a warm family reunion and lots of visiting. If someone wants to spend a year getting something more involved together, bless their hearts, do it! My Fitzpatricks have a reunion in Oklahoma every other year now. Whoever is running it goes to or calls Chickasha about 4 months before to make a deal for motel rooms and a banquet room or other place for the reunion. We've had some wonderful reunions without having to spend a year doing so. All of these reunions have included restaurant cooked meals. Then, every other year the reunion is out here in Redlands on a cousin's estate. We have a wonderful time and a barbecue in the huge park-like backyard. Also, can we PLEASE take this discussion to the MAUPIN-CHAT-L. Those who are not members, please email me privately and I will quickly add you. I know that some in this discussion are already there. Thanks! Cuz Sandi

That would be a wonderful place for a reunion no matter the time of the year less when the snow flies. Sandi

    3. I think the idea of doing a reunion in Virginia with speakers, etc. is the way to go, but it is difficult to arrange. How many of you all are in lineage societies such as the National Huguenot Society or the Manakin Huguenots? They have annual meetings and many of these societies are planning very special meetings in 2007 for the anniversary of Jamestown. Maybe we could attend one of those meetings and have a Maupin meeting at the same time? How does that sound?
