Sandi--I think that you are right. Once a reunion is planned, I know you want the date/place/cost etc posted on this list. But "who wants to help", let's have in the summer","I live...., you live .....," etc. starts to clutter up email lists. Especially for people who are on numerous genie lists. That's just my opinion, and I think it agrees with what you'ved said. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandi Carter" <redfox5@sbcglobal.net> To: <MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 13, 2005 7:54 PM Subject: Re: [MAUPIN-L] Virginia Maupin Reunion > --- Rose Marie Martin <rmartin@ns.gemlink.com> wrote: > > Rose Marie: > > <<< What a shame that the discussion list can't be a forum for those who would like to have a > Maupin Reunion. Sandi: I belong to several other discussion lists, including Via, who allow posting of all pertinent information regarding genealogy of the lines and any meetings/reunions in various areas that those descendants might be able to attend. What a shame that the discussion list can't be a forum for those who would like to have a Maupin Reunion. Without a Web Page for Maupins, the discussion list is the only forum available. Does this mean that if some are willing to take their time and shoulder the expense of planning a reunion in Virginia that we can not use the Maupin Discussion List for communication to those descendants who might wish to attend and to those who are willing to spend their time and money towards a Virginia Maupin Reunion? Nancy--I should have added one more thing. If you joined DAR using a Maupin as your patriot ancestor (like I did) then you will have most of the documentation that you need. Nancy--I think that you can google them and they will come up. I'm in Manakin Huguenots. You must have the birth, death & marriage records (as I recall) back to your original Huguenot ancestor. I believe their sites, which you can find on google, tell you the eligibity for entrance. Once all is planned we'll all be tickled pink to hear the details. Also, I'm sure we can pass the hat to help defray expenses. IT ISN'T fair for several people to suffer the costs of any reunion, small or huge. I sure don't want to have one more discussion about this as THIS is also not Debate-L . Thank you much! Best, Cuz Sandi
Does anyone have information on the National Huguenot Society or the Manakin Huguenots? They sound like interesting societies. thanks, Nancy BP

The chat list is not a chat room. It's just like this list only for non-genealogy discussion, basically. > Why don't you want this on the discussion list? I don't understand. This is a genealogy list and now that you have the ball rolling emails should be on the chat list or from people to you and back. Some list members only want genealogy on genealogy lists or they get grumpy. I'm only going by list policy. Thanks for your help! Sandi =)

Sandi: Was unaware of the Chat List/Room until you told me. However it is very difficult to access, and I doubt that many will be using it. For that reason, I asked that I be e mailed directly since I am reluctant to post my address, phone number and e mail in a Chat Room with all of the horror stories we hear lately. I've gotten an excellent response from some who feel we really need to do this, but in order to keep expenses down, we need to e mail. Thus, I requested they e mail me directly. However that doesn't always happen when they just hit the reply button. Why don't you want this on the discussion list? I don't understand.
