For some reason I had both Dabney And John as John Joseph Maupins fathers, must have been a day when I was really tired. I corrected this in the gedcom and will on the site during my next update. As far as Sarah Dabney, I'll have to look into that one more...I don't have a copy of the book and have been looking for one. The info I got was from a friend who does have and Francis Dabney was the name she gave me and that's what is in my notes, however I know how things can get mixed up so I will definitely look at it. Thank You for your input it is greatly appreciated. Joshua, I'm a cousin through Daniel and Margaret's son, Zachariah. When I started on my genealogical quest, I contacted the Huguenots of Manakin Society in Virginia. The Maupins were refugees from France because of their religious beliefs and the society in Virginia has many records on Gabriel and Marie Maupin, as well as their descendants (Daniel, Zachariah, etc.). Here is a link to their website: http://manakin.addr.com/ Good Luck with your Research! Hi Melva, I am Nancy, Josh's mom. Thank you so much for replying to Josh--he is very excited about this genealogy thing. We have recently moved to Charlottesville from England, and Josh became interested when he saw all the street signs and things with our family names on them. Having never lived here we found we had lots of cousins! Thanks again-- Nancy
Joshua, I dont know how I can help you, but I can let you know we are cousins. My ancestor Mary Maupin married Matthew Mullins. Mary is the daughter of Daniel Maupin and Margaret Via. We must be related in more ways than one. I have ancestors by the names of Hubbard, Jarman, Wallace and Dabney. Good Luck in your search. Hello cousins-- Let me introduce myself. My name is Joshua Burton-Prateley, and I am ten years old. I am contacting you because I am working on my Boy Scout merit badge on genealogy. I am a Maupin cousin. Here is my Maupin line: Nancy Hubbard-Michael Burton-Prateley William Hubbard-Elizabeth Hubbard Noel Hubbard-Ruth Johns Michael Wallace Hubbard-Elizabeth Strodge Col. Depends if you are in France speaking "old" French or "new" French... or if you are in the U.S. anglicizing the name . I consulted with a French teacher a few years ago.. that was her analysis.. Ellie

Hello to all! Im new to the list and have only recently realized my connection to the Maupin lineage. It is as follows Gabriel Maupin (1664) Daniel Maupin (1700) Jesse Maupin (1740) Mosias Maupin (abt. 1765) William Maupin (1787) Amos Maupin (1832) Martha Ellen Matt Maupin (1854) Essie Shelton (abt. 1891) Myrtle Sullins (1913) William Sinak (1939) Michael Sinak (myself) (1962) My father, William Sinak, has made mention many times over the years of our family having some link to the Cherokee Indians. I have no idea where he heard that, but an internet search for Maupin, Shelton, Sullins and Cherokee does indeed bring back some interesting results. All 3 of those names are in the Cherokee Surname list. As Im new to the list, I apologize if this has been overly discussed, but does anyone know if there is any truth to this Cherokee connection and how/where it takes place? Thanks! Michael
