    1. [MAUPIN-L] WE HAVE LOST A MAUPIN RESERCHER
    2. MAUPIN REUNION 2000
    3. Good Evening, Group!!! Back in the Spring I was corresponding with a lady on the on the following line Daniel, John, John, John, John, Stephen, William, Sherman, Shelby, Kathleen Maupin. Last week I received her registration for the Reunion, but had apparently been lost in the mail for it had been send at the last of May. So, today I attempted to call her and tell her of the hotels and the Williamsburg Trip. Made numerous calls during the day and finally this evening about six finally got an answer. It was her daughter, Tenna Jennings, who answered and told me that her Mother had passed away in September. She had an operation to replace her aorta. After the operation she had complications and passed away. I repressed by deep regret to her daughter. I thought perhaps others had corresponded with her and was wondering what had happened to her. Well, I will miss her. She was so excited about the Reunion her daughter said, and she was so glad to learn of her Maupin line. William

    1. [MAUPIN-L] Silas Maupin (VA & Kansas & New Mexico)
    2. Hello List: Will repost some information on my great great grandfather SILAS THOMAS GILMORE MAUPIN (son of Samuel Jennings Maupin and Elizabeth Gilmore; son of Thomas Maupin/Judith Cobb); son of John Maupin/Frances Dabney; son of Daniel Maupin/Margaret Via; son of Gabriel Maupin/Marie Hersent). SILAS T.G. MAUPIN was born Jan 19, 1824 in Mason County, VA married Martha A. BUKEY May 1, 1847 in VA, They had the following 10 children: These were all born in VA (I think): John Samuel Maupin Alexander M. Maupin Mary M. Maupin William Wesley Maupin These were all born in KS Albert M. Maupin Susan Rebecca Maupin (married John Moss) Josephine Bartlett Maupin (married Charles Virden) Ida Maupin (married Milton Virden) Robert Bukey Maupin Spencer T. Maupin *Note: Mary M. and Spencer T. (died as children....so there are no descendents along this line). Silas enlisted in the Kansas Calvary (K Co. 6th Cav Reg. KS) in Sept 1861 (Fort Scott, I believe) and served in various battles in the Civil War, was wounded at Cane Hill, Arkansas Nov 1862, was mustered out at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Dec 1864. Sometime in late 1870s, Silas and family (younger ones only: Josephine, Susan Rebecca, Ida, Robert Bukey) travelled in a conestoga wagon from Kansas to New Mexico (Farmington area) to homestead land. Martha died near Santa Fe, New Mexico and Silas was left to raise the children and homestead the land in Farmington. I have alot of stories and info on these events and this family line forward (pioneers of Farmington, New Mexico, etc). Silas died in Farmington, NM Oct 9, 1902. I would be more than happy to share all of the stories and info (will have to get into my files here later and get more of the facts). Would love to find the descendents of any of the above children. To date I have found and am in contact with descendents of Rebecca Susan Maupin Moss's family, Ida Maupin Virden's family, (my family is Josephine B. Maupin Virden), I have some sketchy info on Robert Bukey Maupin. I am goign to re-look for Silas' obit again as it posts the locations of the older children when he (Silas died in 1902). Any help ???? Thanks all. Susan Virden (in San Diego, CA)

    1. [MAUPIN-L] Re: Samuel J. Maupin/Elizabeth Gilmore
    2. Hello Kathy and Maupin Cousins: I am also going to post the info that I know about Samuel Jennings Maupin and Elizabeth Gilmore to the Maupin List in case anyone out there has "better" information or additional information that can help us. I may have some other information on them in some other files I have, so will have to dig them out later. Kathy writes/asks: "I need help. I'm having a terrible time tracking Samuel J. Maupin & Elizabeth Gilmore. Do you know where they were married and where they went?" I have: Samuel Jennings Maupin (son of Thomas Maupin of Albemarie Co. VA and Judith Cobs) being born before 1790 (??? does anyone have correct date) in Mason County, VA and dying Dec 4, 1825 in Mason County, VA. So I assume that he was in that county his entire life..... He married Elizabeth Gilmore (daughter of Hugh Gilmore and Lucretia Reynolds) on Nov 2, 1820 in Mason County, VA. (unless someone else has something different). My great great grandfather SILAS THOMAS GILMORE MAUPIN (alot of times written as Silas T.G. Maupin) was born Jan 19, 1824 in Mason County, VA (I have this on his obit). He married a Martha Bukey (daughter of John Bukey and Rebeckah Pogue) on May 1, 1847 in Virginia (not sure if it was Mason County or not). The other children of Samuel and Elizabeth (Evelina L. b. 1821 and Margaret H. b. 1825) were all allegedly born in Mason County, VA also. So that is where I assume that they were all living. Any more info on this line of the family would be most appreciated also. I do have alot of information on their son Silas forward and would be more than happy to share. In fact I will re-post some Silas info so as to hope to find some more descendents of this family. Thanks for everyone's help. And hope to see you Kathy (and any other California Maupin's) in Santa Barbara on the 22nd of Oct for our Maupin picnic. Susan (in San Diego) descended from Thomas Maupin/Judith Cobb line......

    3. Actually, the story of Jesse Maupin is more complete in the book I wrote a couple of years ago. Particularly the part of the Indian shooting him -- this may be just an embellishment to the story. It was a very dangerous trip from St. Louis down the Mississippi River to the Arkansas River and up it to where his bounty land was in Arkansas. There were many who drowned along that route and Jesse Maupin, Jr.'s was among them. I have been thinking of setting up a MyFamily.com website for Jesse Maupin and wife Lucy Jones. Here we could all add our material for that segment of the family. Any Jesse descendants interested? 3. Good Morning!!! Phyllis Bauer has been an active Maupin member for some time, but in more recent years her husband has been in ill health so she has not been as active. Her line is Daniel, Jesse, Jesse G., James Henry Maupin. Jesse G., Mosias's brother was on his way to Franklin County, Mo. to live near Mosias family when he was shot by an Indian and fell in the river and drowned. If you get a chance to see one of Dorothy's books (I will have my two copies at the Reunion) you should read the story that Phyllis wrote on Jesse G. It is very interesting. Your George raised James Henry Maupin, Jesse G. son. 3. Hi Max, I see you have a Nancy Miller in your line with the Maupin's like me. I have a Anna Miller married to Thomas L. Maupin. I was wondering if your Nancy Miller could be related to my Anna Miller like sisters. 3. Good Evening!!! Many years ago I got copies of his estate. In those papers were the guardianship papers for James H. Maupin, infant son of Jesse Maupin deceased. This Jesse was Mosias' brother that drowned on his way to Franklin County, in abt. 1819. George took James Henry to raise and at one point there was thought to be some money coming from someone estate and a bond was posted. Apparently the money never came through and a Mr. Nalley was then appointed guardian for James Henry. This is Phyllis Bauer's line. william ----- Original Message ----- From: Max Maupin <mgm148@rollanet.org> To: <MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2000 6:07 PM Subject: Re: [MAUPIN-L] Irvin/Ervin Maupin > Does anyone know anything personal (or otherwise) about George > Maupin, son of Mosias?
