Jim Dillman provided me with the following obituary. Hope it helps someone. Montgomery Standard newspaper dated Dec. 31, 1997, Montgomery City, Missouri. HARRIS MAUPIN, JR. Harris Maupin, Jr., 87, of Hillsboro, Mo., formerly of Mexico, Mo., died Fri., Dec. 26, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Festus, Mo. Funeral services were held at noon Monday at the Maupin Funeral Home in Auxvasse, Mo Burial will be in the Auxvasse Cemetery. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to time of the service on Monday. Mr. Maupin was born April 15, 1910, to Harris and Jessie Britt Maupin in Montgomery City, Mo. On Feb. 11, 1943 , he married Chalene G. Woodson. She preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 1988. He is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Bell of Mexico, Mo. one son, Harris Lynn Maupin of Hillsboro, Mo.; three granddaughters; and one brother, Reece Maupin of Mexico, Mo.. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Mr. Maupin was a vereran of the Army Air Corps. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and Hoffman's grocery store in Mexico, Mo. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. From Jim: Hope this can help someone. Auxvasse is pronounced Au-vose, It is probably less than 20 miles from Montgomery City and near Mexico, Mo.. It is interesting that it is the Maupin Funeral Home. I will bet they have burial records on a lot of Maupins from Montgomery County and Audrain County.
Good Morning!!! Harris Maupin was a constant member of the Reunion Group of Missouri. He was a close friend to Dorothy Shaffett. I knew him and his wife, they came almost every year to the Reunion; The Maupin Funeral home in Fulton is located on the main highway on the north side going into Fulton. I have visited them a couple of times during the past 25 years. They were related to Harris, cousins, second, third or so. If anyone would like to know more about this line please let me know. His line: Daniel, Gabriel, Thomas, Arthur, Jarrott Thomas, Harris, Harris William ----- Original Message ----- From: <Katande@aol.com> To: <MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2000 7:40 AM Subject: [MAUPIN-L] Obit - Harris Maupin > Jim Dillman provided me with the following obituary. Good Evening!!! I know now that the there will be several types of envelopes and pictures of the tombstone available mailed from White Hall with the special cancellation. I need to call the Postmaster again tonight and see if the stamp has arrived yet. The Post Office is so slow sending out these things. A tombstone color picture and small enveloped that imprinted, and cancelled will be $3.00 A regular size envelope, that is imprinted and cancelled is $1.00 A large envelope, that is imprinted, and cancelled is $2.00 You can order these items at MAUPIN REUNION 2000, BOX 345, WHITE HALL, VA 22987. If I receive it by October 25, I will be able to get it processed before I leave White Hall. Make checks payable to Maupin Reunion 2000 William ----- Original Message ----- From: The Headleys <tlubbock@nts-online.net> To: <MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 16, 2000 6:40 PM Subject: Re: [MAUPIN-L] Directions and Accommodations > William-- > > We were so hoping to get to come to the reunion but it doesn't look like it > is going to happen. William-- We were so hoping to get to come to the reunion but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. I would be very interested in getting some cancellations from White Hall, a directory, some apple butter, etc. If you could, please let me know how much I need to send you or whoever and where to send it (cash, check, charge???). My mother was a Maupin, Ida Jane Maupin Black. She died a little over three years ago and would have absolutely loved all this. She would be the first person there fore sure. Our cousins, Tommy and Clare Aycock, will be attending and representing our family. Tommy has written some amazing stories to his grandson, Cooper D, telling all about the Maupin lineage and history. He is truly a gifted writer! Be sure to connect with him there! I am very sad that we will not be able to attend and definitely plan to try to go next time. Again, I would be most interested in purchasing any souvenirs and interesting things at the reunion to share in the celebration. I realize you are very busy and I have waited until the last minute to send you this (I just kept hoping we would be able to swing it from here in Lubbock, Tx). If I have waited too long to ask this of you, I understand. You have done an amazing job, and it is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance......Amy Headley -----Original Message----- From: MAUPIN REUNION 2000 <maupinreunion@par1.net> To: MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com <MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, October 16, 2000 3:12 PM Subject: [MAUPIN-L] Directions and Accommodations > Good Afternoon, Group!!! > >Sorry my first messages may not have been clear. > >I will arrive at Quality Inn either Saturday or Sunday. Dear William, I wish I could attend. It is not possible. I send much gratitude for you hard work. I want several items and hope I get a chance to buy some of the things that will be offered. But.......most of all I thank you for your hard work, your enduring loyalty, and you kindness in sharing so much. I will connect my Charles Wesley Maupin who m. my Sharp. I will find out what happened to their children....I WILL you know. Thank you for so much hard work and all the sharing that you do. Wish I could have a little applebutter to go with my Texas cornbread! Tootie in Amarillo, Texas
Dan Maupin has ask that we have the people shuttled around White Hall in vans. One member of the family is driving a van to the Reunion and has offered to use his van on Saturday at White Hall. I would like to have two additional vans. I have called about renting vans. The rates were low, but each van has to be rented separately and the driver has to have a major credit card in their name and a current drivers license and be over 25. If anyone out there is coming to the Reunion and can help out in this situation please e-mail me. I may have one driver available in Charlottesville, so just need one, but a standby would be good. William
Good Afternoon, Group!!! Sorry my first messages may not have been clear. I will arrive at Quality Inn either Saturday or Sunday. I have not been assigned a room yet. You may call for me at the desk, they will ring the room or take a message if I am out. I have work to do each day before the Reunion. Will plan to be back at the room by 7 each evening. I told Wes, I would try and keep up on the arrivals of the Train people, and the airport people. This will help things move along better. Forgot to give directions to Double Tree. They are the same as for Quality, except you will go further north on 29. Through eight stop lights. When you come to Walmarts on the left you will turn left at the ninth stop light. Turn right at the next light which will be Sam's on you right, and Walmarts on you left. Go straight and you will run into Double Tree Hote. If you need any other driving instructions please let me know. I have traveled all over West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia etc. I should be able to give you directions. William
