I am also a direct descendant of John Rice Maupin and Helen Eastman. We have this story in our family lore. My grandfather, Bertram Maupin Leecraft, used to talk about his grandfather's role in the Civil War and his role in the development of Colbert, OK and that area. I have a photo of John Rice Maupin but I don't think I can post it here. If you are interested in it, let me know. In my humble opinion, considering the enormity of the amount of data that covers the entire descendancy of the Maupins, I would suggest there be a MyFamily.com website for each of the children of Daniel Maupin and his wife Margaret Via. If a Maupin descendant wants to visit websites for other children of Daniel and Margaret, it is easy enough to ask for an "invite" here on the list, if you do not know who the administrator is in order to ask them. I administer two MyFamily.com websites for the purpose of sharing my research. I figure I can't take it with me, and to get involved in publishing hard copies is more work than uploading, although I have made hard copies for my family. The Maupin section from my personal family history book is at the website for anyone who cares to download it and read it. (Again, my theory is, I can't take it with me, but I will haunt anyone who publishes it and claims it is theirs!) This Maupin section is primarily of interest to those who descend through Jesse and Lucy, as I do. As previously mentioned, Mosias is not covered as he and his brood are so extensive and much research has been performed by others. I did include the descendants of some of the other children of Jesse and Lucy because I had the information and perhaps no one else does. Again, it is a way of sharing it with present and future researchers. The MyFamily.com websites are semi-private in that another member must invite you to join. (Although I've browsed other MyFamily.com websites by having a member send me a copy of a notice to a new addition of material at the particular website.) Sandi mentioned she personally will not put her lineage on a MyFamily.com website because it will end up on the Ancestry.com CDs and who knows what else. If Ancestry's claims are correct, this will happen only if you check the box when you are making the upload. So, if you do not want this to happen, DO NOT check the box giving permission for them to use the GEDCOM. Trusting that the GEDCOM will not be published further than the website, I have uploaded data no more recent than my grandmother. This gives some security for the data of the most recent generations. A downside of having your GEDCOM there for others, is that I've discovered my copious notes are cut off at a certain point. Apparently there is a limit to how much of the notes is put on the website. I know there is a limit as to how much material can be at the website, and while this is a generous amount, I can visualize it not being enough if ALL the Maupin descendants starting uploading their material to ONE Maupin MyFamily.com website. Perhaps a solution to the hesitancy of persons to put their lineage on the website could be solved by making a note as to whether or not they are willing to share a GEDCOM file. What I have done with the two websites for which I am administrator, is to use the "Recipes" section for "Brief Lineages," i.e., the names only of each generation from whom that person descends. In the "Title" one could add "(GEDCOM available)" if they were willing and able to share one. (If you haven't already figured this out, there are "Givers" and there are "Takers" in this world of ours.) It is simple to start a new website. Visit mine and there with just a click of the mouse you can start your own MyFamily.com website. Everyone uploads their own material. You may have to occasionally explain things to those who don't quite understand something, but most people are able to handle this as it is quite simple. Believe me, if starting this site was going to take a lot of my time, I would not have done it, as "time" is my most precious possession. These are just some ideas for those who are considering starting a MyFamily.com website for the purpose of sharing material on that particular line of Maupins. If you have any further questions, I am sure Sandi or I could probably answer them for you. Phyllis J. The site has several sections on it- Files, History, Photos, News, even a section to add your gedcom ( this is one section I DON'T use- I know of too many gedcoms that have been added to Ancestry.com from these sites). If members of the list want- I will start it up. Just send me an email with your name ( need first and last) and email address and I'll get it started. Linda

Sandi, Why don't we just start a My.Family site for MAUPIN- that way all Maupin descendants can add their lines to it. And then- we can start up the separate branch sites. Outlines of each members line can be posted to the site- and then the sharing can begin. Just a suggestion to get it started. Linda ( a descendant of Gabriel Maupin and Ann Ballard)
Hi Cousins: Have had some private e-mail as to the cost of the reprint of Dorothy's book. I do not know at this time. I know Bill Albertson must know, but, we need to give him a few days to rest after the BIG reunion. Now, as to supplements, it just isn't going to happen. There would be so many that they would look like a set of encyclopedias. Therefore, Cousin Phyllis Bauer might have the right solution since she has a MyFamily.com website for her section of the family. I was thinking of getting one for the Dabney Maupin~Sarah "Sally" Dennis section. I don't know just how many of there of we are on this list. We might go a notch up to John Maupin~Sarah "Sally" Crossthwaite. I need some input on the above to decide just what to do about it. Thanks, Cuz Sandi

If we weren't on the previous list to get a copy (or copies) of Dorothy's book, can we still get one. I have just talked with my mother and she would like a copy also, also my siblings, so I would need 5 copies (and 5 supplements). My line is Gabriel>Daniel>John Sr.>Thomas>John Dabney>Charles>George>Myrtle>Helen> Carol>Leanna. I am new to the list, so have just been following along. Wish I could have gone to the reunion, would like to have met some Maupin cousins. Leanna

Hi Cousins: Am posting the current book list so all can see if they are on it. I don't know just how Dorothy is going to handle knowing how many books to have published. Possibly the $ will be collected first. That seems the best way to me. Anyway, William will see this and she will get a copy. William-- I mailed a check and the letter below to you at the beginning of last week. I hope it has gotten to you by now. I have just recently seen there are five books to purchase, so I may not have sent enough money. If this is the case, please let me know, and I will send the additional funds. Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Amy Headley >>William-- Below are the items listed that I am interested in. With price and postage......I come up with $35.00. I was not sure if the postage would be the same if all were ordered at the same time. I would also be interested in a jar of Maupin apple butter (if that is possible). I will mail you a check or I can also send money immediately via Paypal. Just let me know how much and how you wish to receive it. Thanks again.......Amy Maupin Directory $6.00 plus $1.00 postage. William. I have emailed you directly several time and we have spoken of my line through Emma Maupin of Putnam County, Missouri. I hope you remember me. I have been reading about the books from the Reunion, and I realize I may have waited too long to get a copy of each book, but I would like to purchase each one if they are available. Would you please put my name down on your list and contact me if you have enough. I will send the payment (you will have to let me know how much) the very day you contact me. I think I am on Sandy's list for Dorothy's book and addendum already, but I need to check and make sure. I hope you had a great time at the reunion and didn't work too hard. If there is a Missouri reunion, I will definitely be at it and maybe have a chance to meet you. I would have loved to have gone to the VA one, but I was too busy and on a deadline for a web site I have developed for a company in St. Louis. I am in publication work. I work on magazines, web sites, and books, so I have a great deal of respect for what it takes to put them together and publish them. I really hope I am able to get the 5 books or booklets. Talk to you later. Phyllis Abbott 2622 Logan Street Granite City, IL 62020 Phone: 618-451-9040 Fax: 618-877-4075 e-mail: westabot@aol.com
William, I also want the 5 reunion books and the jar of honey or empty jar, whichever is still available, if any. I had already sent this before the reunion but knew you were busy and wanted to stay in touch. I will send what ever amount is needed. I, also, had put my name down for the book if reprinted. Thank you again William, you are most special. Ira Sharp Dennis ada Tootie in Amarillo, Texas
Good Morning William: Are you still on line with your lap top, if so I have a request? Nothing like waiting until the MAUPIN REUNION 2000 is over, but I would like to purchase whatever Reunion Items are available, especially all five of the Reunion books, but the other items as well. If it is possible to still purchase them and you can make copies after you return home, that would be just great! I will mail you a check to cover whatever the cost may be including postage, handling and any other out of pocket cost you may incur. If the five reunion books and any of the other reunion items are still available, and if so how much $$$ to send to you. I just read a couple of posts to the MAUPIN list that Dorothy is taking orders for the reprint of her book. I definitely want to purchase one! So, please give Dorothy my name and address, and let me know how much to send her (Need her mailing address.). It sounds like the Reunion has really gone well! There is no doubt that it did, with all the efforts you put into it! It spoke to Linda (JARMAN) Valentine about a week before the reunion, and she said she would be making a presentation on the JARMAN Family at the reunion. She said, she would be talking with you more about the JARMAN Family and would get back to me following the reunion. I really hope she, you or someone will know who the parents are of the Thomas JARMAN (JERMAN), who married Lucretia FREEMAN on 10 July 1802 in Madison Co., KY; d. in 1843 in Madison Co., KY!
