Here is what it says in Dorothy's book: "An interesting article about John Rice Maupin can be found in "The Chronicles of Oklahoma, Vol.XVI, September 1938, pg 302-314." At any rate, the address I included could be used for this article as well as the other one because I believe this volume is also sold out. Pat

I don't know if it would be a problem for a private citizen to make copies and give away. Maybe we should write and ask. Here is the gist of my correspondence: " As you can see from the inventory list, I do not have Issue # 4 ( Winter ) of Vol.-XXI, The page numbers run consecutively for the Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter issues, then they start with page one, the next Year (or Volume ). I have looked at the Fall issue, and it only goes through Page # 31. Apparently the article that you referenced, is the 1st article in the winter issue. Our Library resources division can Xerox the article for you if you wish. They will charge you 20 cents a page and $1.50 for shipping & handling. If you are interested, I will pass your request on to them.I am sorry that we no longer have the XXI-4. Henry Roork His address is hroork@ok-history.mus.ok.us
I am just in the process of installing the software for programs associated with the scanner at work and learning how to use it. As soon as I can I will scan them and email them directly to those who request. I'm the boss so no problem using it at work. Linda PS To those who are waiting on me to send them other Maupin information, especially Vi Long, I will do what I said. But, still haven't had time to do it. My work hours are not limited to the usual 40 hours per week. I know that you have waited a long time and are probably ready to give up, etc. but I'm also frustrated that I haven't been able to have the time to get it to you. Though she said more printed but will depend on how many people want them I am sure - she will go by the requests she has more than likely. - But yes - the shipping cost will be included with the $40 or more that is needed. Bill will more than likely know more about them when he gets back on line. Bill will let us all know about the newsletter and how to subscribe when he gets the reunion finished - he still has some things to finish up there. And I believe we all owe Bill a great deal of thanks for all that he did for us and is continuing to do for us over this reunion. Thanks Bill! Bill Albertson said at the reunion that he's going to be doing a news letter. And I think this is what he said: If you subscribe to the newletter (Quarterly?), with each one he will include a sheet on one line of the Maupins. And if you save them and put together each one you get quarterly, eventually you will have the entire Maupin family history. He did not say how to subscribe to the newsletter, however. I talked to Dorothy and her husband about the books later, and she's selling to her MO Maupins locally for $40, but they may--and I think they should--add the cost of mailing if they are mailed which her husband said would be $2.50. I think that they said they were only get 150 printed--is that right, Linda--and I fear that that may not be enough. Denise Maupin Watson
Dorothy said at the reunion that the books would be $40 - her husband said $50 - she over ruled him. I think she is planning right now on printing about 300 - depends on what she gets from this. As for the supplements she suggests that we get together with others on our lines and begin our supplements that way - she just isn't able to handle doing it anymore. It was a wonderful reunion and I enjoyed meeting many who were there. Let me know if I can be of help to any one - (also have some pictures I will scan soon on some of the Jarman, Bowen, Ballard, and Bigelow families - have names but not with correct people - so if anyone might know anything about these lines - please let me know Thanks Linda Valentine lerj@mindspring.com -----Original Message----- From: SandKatC@aol.com [mailto:SandKatC@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, October 29, 2000 10:44 PM To: MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MAUPIN-L] DOROTHY MAUPIN SHAFFETT'S BOOK REPRINT Hi Cousins: Have had some private e-mail as to the cost of the reprint of Dorothy's book. I do not know at this time. I know Bill Albertson must know, but, we need to give him a few days to rest after the BIG reunion. Now, as to supplements, it just isn't going to happen. There would be so many that they would look like a set of encyclopedias. Therefore, Cousin Phyllis Bauer might have the right solution since she has a MyFamily.com website for her section of the family. I was thinking of getting one for the Dabney Maupin~Sarah "Sally" Dennis section. I don't know just how many of there of we are on this list. We might go a notch up to John Maupin~Sarah "Sally" Crossthwaite. I need some input on the above to decide just what to do about it. Is the correct spelling QUANTRELL or QUANTRILL? I have seen it both ways and would like to know which one is right. Thanks Denise
My line is Gabriel>Daniel>John>Thomas>John Dabney>Charles Morris>Daniel Marion> John William>Morris>John Wheelan Maupin (me). One of John Dabney's sons, John Upton Maupin, was supposedly also an "irregular" in Missouri during the Civil War. He was born in Shelby County, MO in 1841 and was killed in Hunnewell, MO (also Shelby County) on August 18, 1864 when he resisted capture by a squad of federal troops sent to pick him up when he came home to visit. He had a Quantrell connection of some sort and had lost an arm early in the war - he was still carrying two guns, however, and put up quite a fight before falling to superior forces. Interestingly, at least to me, is the fact that several different lines of our family came into Missouri about the same time; but I was disappointed at the reunion because so few there were closer to me than the Thomas/Judith Cobbs branch.

Hello Denise, I was reviewing some of my notes (and maybe someone else on the list can re-verify this, as I think it is in Dorothy's book, which I do not have a copy, she was kind enough to just send me a few pages to which my connection was)..... But here is what I was getting at: I believe one of the children of your William Maupin-Mildred White line named Margaret (Peggy) Maupin (I do not have any of the other children's names, maybe someone can provide)...... was the second wife of Thomas Maupin. William Maupin and John Maupin (who married Frances Dabney) were brothers. William had child Peggy, John had child Thomas. So Peggy and Thomas were 1st cousins (right??). Thomas first married Judith Cobbs and had 6 children (The 6 children's names were: John Dabney Maupin, Samuel Jennings Maupin, Nancy G. Thomas (?), Frances Dabney Morris, Fleming Cobbs Maupin, and another Thomas Maupin. (Does anyone know of this story, did Judith die or divorce ??). Then Thomas married Margaret (Peggy) Maupin his cousin and they had 7 children (Their 7 children: Margaret W. Maupin, Beverly W. Love (?), Chapman W. Maupin, Henry Bascomb Maupin, Mildred W. Becker(?), William L. Maupin My line comes from the Judith Cobbs marriage from their son Samuel Jennings Maupin. Would love to have ANY information, documents, stories, etc on Thomas/Judith Cobb marriage/life, etc. Thanks from anyone in advance. Hope this wasnt too confusing, I really have to sit and figure it out again sometimes with all of the Thomas', Johns' and Dabneys' and Margarets' !!! Take Care all. Susan (in San Diego, CA)
I'd love an invite to your site, also Ballard, Thomas ! Please ! Kim Wallace wallacekim@aol.com
Hello List, I have put my line up before, but with so many new ones and people writing in about the reunion, and Sandi's request thought I would write again. Gabriel Maupin/Marie Hersent Daniel Maupin/Margaret Via John Maupin/Frances Dabney Thomas Maupin/Judith Cobbs Samuel Jennings Maupin/Elizabeth Gilmore Silas Thomas Gilmore Maupin/Martha A. Bukey Josephine B. Maupin/Charles William Virden Thomas Charles Virden/Mary Jane Richards Charles Samuel Virden/Jean I. Henckler Susan Mary Virden (ME!!) I have alot of information from Silas T.G. Maupin (Civil War records, Kansas info, Homesteading in New Mexico, stories, picture, etc....) and of his wife Martha A. BUKEY line who were also from the VA area. Note: Silas was born in VA (probably what is now West Virginia), moved to Kansas, was in the Kansas Calvary for the North in Civil War, was injured in the War, went to New Mexico to homestead land, was in the Volunteer Militia for the Territory of New Mexico. I have alot of information about 4 of their 10 children (Josephine, Ida, Susan Rebecca, and Robert Bukey Maupin).....looking for others.... and when they all went to New Mexico in a conestoga wagon to homestead land, and their lives from about 1880s forward. Am willing to share and when I get some extra time here will post some more information and other related family lines. Hope to hear from others from the Thomas Maupin/Judith Cobb line.
