At the Missouri reunion last summer I picked up a piece of paper with the title:"A Forgotten Hero of the Revolution "Tough Daniel Maupin" . It has the page number 247 on the bottom of it. It is very interesting reading and I was wondering where I could find the rest of it to read. Does anyone out there have a clue? It was laying with the guns that were displayed at that reunion. Any clue would be appreciated. Vicki
Carol Breeden. In your response concerning Charles Wesley MAUPIN. You have Bennett's birth as 04-Jul-1766. This would make his father, Matthew only 2 yrs old when he was born. I think Bennett was born 1788. What is you source for the third wife, Mary Royce. I am much interested in proving that William who married Maleetha Parish is in fact the son of Bennett rather than Dabney which I have had my doubts about. Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Pauline
Are we allowed to do advertising on here???
Hi William, are the things still available to buy like the book, applebutter jar and I can not remember the rest of the things. Somehow I deleted it from my save boxes. I you like to order these things. Could you please let me know and the cost too. Look forward hearing from you. P.S. Is their any pictures that we can get from the reunion? Thank you Vi Long
Dear Dear Sandi, You forgot me...... your "special" cousin in San Diego. Susan Virden descended from John Maupin/Frances Dabney remember Thomas Maupin was their son who married Judith Cobb...... that line..... Luv, Cousin Susan
Hi Sandy, I'm Carolyn "Carol" Farmer- I am "my husband- Bill's" family researcher. For years-even at the reunion, everyone thought I was the "M" descendent but it's my husband. He descends from --John and Frances Dabney; John and Sally Croswaithe;Dabney and Sally Dennis; Dabney and Minerva Hollingsworth; James Gregory and Lydia F. Reynolds; Grace M and Hayes Farmer; Edgar Farmer and Ada Meece; William Hayes Farmer and me, Carolyn Ann Kendrick Farmer. I am seeking descendents and help with Samuel Dennis (Sally's father) , ?? Hollingsworth and Joseph Reynolds (Frances' father). Do you have any info on these lines. These are my weak links. I think perhaps Phyllis Bauer may have already submitted my name to you. Not sure. I'm at cafarmer@wt.net . Does anyone know of an address or catalog name where you can buy sweat shirt, tee shirts, etc. with the MAUPIN name and crest on them? I have a sweat shirt but lost the catalog, and I want to order some more things. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks, Denise Maupin Watson
Dear cousins, Well, it seems that the pronunciation of "Maupin" is not that evident. Of course we have the accent, that can vary from Texas to Connecticut and from the Bronx to Seattle ... We have the same "problem" in France or Quebec... But what is really striking is that a family name can be pronunced in such different ways in the USA, and I think it has nothing to do with the accent. Most have something to do with the fact that it is a french name, and that in those days (late 17th cent.) in New England few persons spoke french and the pronunciation was slowly distorted by people in relation with the Maupins. And slowly the children and great-grand children got contaminated ... It most have happen in such a way. But how exactly was pronunced "Maupin" in France in the late 17th century ? And like Sandi asked, was it pronunced everywhere in France the same way ? These days in France, from what I know, there is a standard pronunciation for "Maupin". Max Maupin's professor was close to reality when he said it should rhyme with "Chopin". Of course it depends on the way you pronunce "Chopin", but in french both are very close, with a little difference in the "O" sound. The "O" in mAUpin is open and long and the "O" in chOpin is shorter. One day I will send you a recording of french folks saying "Maupin" !!!! Cheers, Patrick
Bonjour Cousin Patrick: That was most interesting about our family name. Yep, I would say a recording would be the way to go. As to Chopin I say it "Show-pah" which might get me laughed out of France! LOL Best, Cousine Sandi
This looks very promising. I would be grateful for the census information you may have. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
