I would still like to see Bettye offer her opinion. She is a writer, she is not a Maupin (by birth), but she has shown a great interest; as well as her other half - Max Gail Maupin. The intrest shown by their daughters at the reunion should also add some spice to the story. Please accept part of the writing. -- Loren <kycollja@midusa.net> {:-)> HOKC *))))) TSG, USAF, Retired >From Iola, in the rolling hills of SE Kansas

DEAR WILLIAM, IT'S JUST ME AGAIN. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO READ MY EMAIL SINCE OCT 23RD. I WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR RESEARCH GROUP. I RAN ACROSS SOME OLD NEWSPAPER ARTICLES FROM WASHINGTON,MO THAT MENTION THE MAUPINS. I WILL RUN THESE OFF AND SEND THEM. I LOCATED THE BOOK "A CONFEDERATE NURSE" AND AM RE-READING IT. IT ACTUALLY TOOK PLACE IN CHARLOTTESVILLE,VA. I WILL SEND THAT TO YOU TOO. I AM ALSO SENDING SOME PICTURES OF A MAUPIN COAT OF ARMS THAT I GAVE TO MY MOM IN 1972. I ORDERED IT FROM A BRITISH FIRM. IT HAS A COPPER-ENAMELED SHIELD ON A WOODEN SHIELD. TECHNICALLY, ONLY THE OLDEST SON-AD INFINITUM-IS ALLOWED THE USE OF THE FAMILY COAT OF ARMS. HIS WIFE CAN ADD HERS TO HALF OF THE SHIELD IF SHE IS THE OLDEST AND MARRIES THE OLDEST. THEY ARE STILL COPY-WRITED TO THIS DAY. A FRIEND OF MINE HAD A "FLEM,NOIR ,TROIS SANGRE, ON A SILVER SHIELD--COULD NOT REMEMBER HOW IT IS WRITTEN IN FRENCH. IT IS A BLACK MEDIEVAL BLOOD LETTING DEVICE,STANDING UPRIGHT IN THE MIDDLE GROUND OF THE SHIELD,WITH THREE DROPS OF BLOOD ON A SILVER BACKGROUND. WHY I MENTION THIS IS AN ARMY GROUP LISTED A BADGE IN THE "QUARTERMASTER'S" CATALOG THAT ONLY LACKED THE BLOOD DRIPPING OFF OF IT. MY FRIEND CONTACTED OUR KINGDOM'S HERALD AND HE FILED THE NECESSARY PAPERWORK AND THE ARMY BADGE WAS ELIMINATED. (OUR KINGDOM WITH THE "SOCIETY FOR CREATIVE ANACHRONISM"). I AM SO HUNGRY. EVEN THE DOG FOOD SMELLS GOOD. Hi everyone; I was hoping I wouldn't have to say this, but--------I really used to enjoy opening up my EMAIL and reading interesting bits of information about various Maupin and Miller lines and other offsprings. I now have to wade through 50-75 or even 100 "one liners" between folks who should be tieing up each others "personal" EMAIL addresses. I have, in the past, read complaints about the messages and whoever brought it up was told if they didn't like it, unsuscribe, well, unfortunately, I guess I'm one that will be told the same thing. So------to save everyone from having to send me a "one liner" to tell me to butt out, I'm out of here. Mickie Davis (no I'm not afraid to use my name). Miller line and looking for another way to research it. Thanks for all the good stuff everyone and to the other "one liner" folks, get a life.
DEAR WILLIAM, WILLIAM,GOOD LUCK WITH THE TEA KETTLE! DEBORAH MCNAY (MULLINS LINE)AND I TRIED TO WRANGLE THE TEA KETTLE FROM JULIAN. WE REMINDED HIM THAT THE THREE OF US WERE ALL SINGLE AND WE SHOULD GO AND PARTY. HE REPLIED"I LIKE IT JUST FINE HERE!!!!!!" THAT WAS SATURDAY JUST BEFORE WE ALL LEFT FOR THE DAY. HE WAS JUST ABOUT THE LAST PERSON TO EAT AT THE ROTARIAN(?) SO DEBORAH AND I FIGURED HE COULD ONLY DIGEST ONE THING AT A TIME. I CANNOT BELIEVE I CAN FINALLY GET AROUND. I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS "BOX" SINCE YESTERDAY. I HAVE HAD 2 OATMEAL COOKIES AND 2-3MUGS OF TEA. I HAVE A PROGRAM CALLED"PRINT SHOP"(OF COURSE IT AN AOL PRODUCT) BUT IT IS REALLY COOL. I PLAYED WITH IT LAST NIGHT AND USED UP ALL OF MY INK. IT HAS SOME THINGS LIKE TAILOR LOGOO,GARDENING,FRUIT STAND,GRAPES,FLEUR-DE-LIS,AND SOME ENGLISH HALF-TIMBER BUILDINGS. IT HAS CALLIGRAPY LETTERING IN SEVERAL STYLES. YOU CAN CHOOSE JUST ABOUT ANYTHING YOU CAN DREAM UP. I HOPE THE LETTER I JUST CALLIGED YOU ACTUALLY ARRIVES. I BOUGHT A NEW SET OF PENS,INK AND BOUGHT THE PARCHMENT AND SEALING WAX AT WILLIAMSBURG. I JUST MAY COME TO THE REUNION IN MY 14TH CENTURY COSTUME THAT I HAVE TOILED OVER FOR SEVERAL YEARS. THE REASON I MENTION THIS, MY NAME IN THE"SOCIETY FOR CREATIVE ANACHRONISM" WAS 'MAURA de MAUPIN. THAT IS ONE M FEMALE NAME THAT IS NOT IN ANY OF THE MAUPIN LINES. I SORT OF DROPPED THE SUBJECT. I HOPE THE SEALING WAX DOESN'T JAM UP THE POSTAL SYSTEMS MACHINES. I DID LIKEWISE FOR MR. AND MRS. DAN MAUPIN. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAT PUT DOWN WHEN I GOT HOME. SHE WAS BEGGING ME TO DO IT AND I COULN'T WATCH HER SUFFER. I HAD HER 4 YRS. AND SHE WAS AT LEAST 12 YRS OLD WHEN I FOUND HER. SHE IS BURRIED IN THE SAME ROW AS THE "BEST DOG ON THE PLANET----MY LITTLE GIRL IN A DOG SUIT-----MEGGAN! THE PET CEMETARY IS NOT TOO FAR AWAY AND THEY ARE REALLY SPECIAL. SHE HAD A BABY BLANKET IN HER LITTLE COFFIN AND I HAVE YET TO PICK OUT A HEADSTONE. I GET A 20YR DEED TO HER LIITLE PLOT. I HAVE A WREATH MADE FOR HER. I MAKE A LOT OF ANIMAL HEADSTONES-CUSTOM MADE-OUT OF SOMETHING I CAN POUR UP AND CARVE. THERE ARE NONE UNLESS YOU RUN ACROSS ONE IN A CATALOG. I HAVE MADE QUITE A FEW FOR GOATS LATELY. BECAUSE OF THE DROUGHT THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, BIG CATS HAVE BEEN GETTING GOATS IN BROAD DAY LIGHT. THEY HAVE BEEN SEEN DIGGING UNDER 10FT CHAIN LINK FENCING, KILLING ALL THE GOATS, AND MAKING SEVERAL TRIPS BACK TO PICK UP THE LEFTOVERS..THEY ARE NOT AFRAID OF PEOPLE. THIS IS ONE THING I HAVE NOT SEEN AT MY HOUSE BUT THEY ARE ONLY ABOUT 11 MILES AWAY. THE URBAN IS SPRAWLING OUT OF CONTROL. I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM STILL TYPING AWAY AFTER 22 HOURS. I SURE HAD A GOOD TIME. I AM GLAD THAT YOU DID NOT GET SICK AFTER ALL THE STRESS WITH PREPARATION AND THEN THE LET DOWN AFTERWARDS. WOULD YOU LIKE SOME HELP WITH THE MISSOURI REUNION??? ONE OF THESE DAYS I AM GOING TO HAVE TO GO BACK TO WORK. IT HAS BEEN 50%CHEAPER NOT WORKING---NO GAS TO BUY,EAT AT HOME,LAUNDER AT HOME, HAVE BEEN DOING ALL MY OWN REPAIRS,MEDICATE MY ANIMALS AT HOME, AND SINCE I AM NOT WORKING IN A HOSPITAL ANY MORE----I DON'T GET SICK!!!!!! YOU CANNOT TELL BY THE AMOUNT OF VERBAGE I HAVE SPREAD OVER THE AIRWAVES THAT I AM A MAUPIN GIRL. IF I HAVEN'T MENTIONED IT, I WILL BE IN MO. IN APRIL TO SQUEEZE ALL THE INFO OUT OF THE 2 MAUPIN GIRLS THAT ARE LEFT. I WILL BE AROUND WASHINGTON,MO FRANKLIN AND JEFFERSON COUNTIES. COMPARED TO TEXAS, THE TRIP TO FENTON/COLUMBIA IS NOT THAT FAR. DID YOU KNOW THAT LORRAINE ABERNATHY'S SON (CALIFORNIA) WORKS AND LIVES IN COLUMBIA?? Good Evening!!! Newsletter!!!!! Anyone who attended the Missouri Maupin Reunion, the Virginia Maupin Reunion or purchased a Directory will automatically get a free copy of the first newsletter. After that it will be by subscription. Have not set the rate yet, still working on that. I will announce it on the web and anyone who does not fall into these categories can order the newsletter for a small fee. More information to be posted in January. Good Evening!!! When I find my copy of the letter written by the Thompson girl where she describes the death of Thompson Maupin I will e-mail it to those who wish to read it. The fact about the death of the soldier who shot Thompson was from the book by Dr. Michael Beshore who was married to Ann Maupin sister to John Rice Maupin. The story was told to the I believe by Jesse and Frank James. Well, will try and get all this together for those of you who wish to hear the details. Good Evening, Group!!! While on the Williamsburg Trip several of us discussed starting Research Groups. I would like to suggest we start this program. For example, a group of from 4-6 people would work together on a particular subject or person or fact, collecting data, documentation etc to prove or disprove their points. College students have study groups and accomplish a great deal. Why not try this out. Subjects I would like to have Researched: Gabriel Maupin, Marie Hersent Maupin Crease and Thomas Crease. First wife of Daniel Maupin, III, I have worked on this but it needs more work. Have several other topics, but would like to know if there is an interest in this type of study. William

Hi William & All: John Maupin~Mary Jane Williams were my GG grandparents and we have found nothing on a Malissa Maupin. John Clyde Maupin, John's cousin, was also in the area and married Allie Graham. The Graham family has married into various parts of our family. I have never seen our John listed with a D. before getting on this list. I wonder why and also wonder if his middle name was Daniel since his daughter, my G grandma, was Mary Daniel. Also, I am hoping you can help in this other family mystery. Have you ever heard that John Maupin~Mary Jane Williams had a daughter by the name of Emma? I never heard this until getting to know a cousin from my John & Mary Jane Maupin family. John's son Tolbert, Emma's sister, told his son about her and he should know if he had such a sister. Emma married a farmer in Chickasha, Indian Territory (now Chickasha, Grady CO, OK) by the name of ? Kirkpatrick and they had 8 or 9 children. I can't find one single thing on these people since I have no dates or the first name of the Kirkpatrick. Wonder if Emma was not liked by the family as she never showed up in any old letters and records we have. Cuz Sandi
