    1. [MAUPIN-L] Thompson letter list

    3. In the risk of typing a one-liner and offending several people, I would like to be added to the list of people receiving a copy of this letter. (whew! two lines! just made it!) 1. RE: [MAUPIN-L] Question
    2. Maupin, Donna
    3. Dear Cousins: Having been on this list for over a year, I remember that this question came up for discussion awhile ago. On most listservs, emails with general information content go to the list while personal notes or specific information between two people are sent to the private email address. The previous discussion on Maupin-L led us to continue to send all emails to the listserv. I enjoy being on the list and reading about the research on all Maupin lines. I would prefer not to get emails that: - are personal in nature and between two individuals - requests for orders of various Maupin products (ie: Please send me a jar of apple butter, postcard, etc.) - tell me when you went to bed at night, what problems you have with your computer, etc. - announce your own retail web site, or any other product you might make and sell This is not meant to be harsh or cruel, I'm just outlining my understanding of email etiquette. So let's try to keep our listserv on topic - Maupin family research! If I see a question or comment on the List and wish to respond to that writer, is it more appropriate to do that using the MAUPIN-L or to just e-mail that writer at their personal email addy? I'm never sure about it, and do differnt things at different times. I noticed that one member was irritated about "one-liners", and I'm just wondering because I don't really know that much about the pros and cons of responding via the MAUPIN-L. Can somebody please enlighten me? Thanks, Denise ==== MAUPIN Mailing List ==== Personalized Mailing Lists: never miss a connection again. <http://pml.rootsweb.com> Brought to you by RootsWeb.com

    3. Deniece and all; Posting privately or to the list is oftern a matter of choice. I usually use the following guidelines: 1. If it is personal in nature - or - concerns only one person then I go private. This helps keep the list open. 2. If I feel that the answer is of benefit to most, or all, on the list - then it goes public. 3. When in doubt - go public. This list is even more so because of the closeness of the relationships and intermarriages. 4. It would also be proper to forward, or inform our list, of information found on closely related lists - Ballard, Jarman, Miller, Harris, etc.. This should probably include "Place" lists such as the Madison County, KY, list. 5. Freely use the "Cut and Paste" feature rather than quote the entire message(s). 6. When all else fails - locate the delete button. -- Loren <kycollja@midusa.net> {:-)> HOKC *))))) TSG, USAF, Retired >From Iola, in the rolling hills of SE Kansas

    2. MAUPIN REUNION 2000
    3. Good Morning!!! Sorry I did not get to talk with you more. Have heard of you for several years and since you are active on my favorite line I wanted to talk with you. Sorry I was in error on who was the descendant, but I am glad you married into the family, we need good people like you. Did you see the documents I had at the Reunion of John Maupin and Sally Crosthwaite? Have more. Did not have time to get all of them ready. Careful examination of these documents will give us additional information about this fearless and handworking early Kentucky family. I am so impress with John Maupin, he was a real fighter, and a hard working man. By the way are you still involved with Jamestown? Am very interested in the celebration they are planning for 2007. Do you know anything about it or where I can check into it? I like to start early on planning on trips. I am also interested in checking the list of names for those who were at Jamestown to see if there might be a line there on which I have worked. 2. Dear Cousins. I saw a posting of a discribtion of the Maupins from the Miller book. I had planned to print it out but was out of ink. Can someone repost it? I was surprised at how much the discribtion fit the ones I know. Also, was there mention of a family reunion somewhere in Kentucky for the next year? If so, I would be interested. Sure hated to miss this years reunions but been a very bad summer. Thanks in advance. J. Miller

    1. [MAUPIN-L] Question re List Procedure
    2. Warren Wood
    3. On Nov. 16, 2000, Denise Watson wrote: "If I see a question or comment on the List and wish to respond to that writer, is it more appropriate to do that using the MAUPIN-L or to just e-mail that writer at their personal email addy? It's also a sensitive question because, depending on how one answers it, some might get their feelings hurt. But at the risk of ruffling some feathers, here's my opinion. I view these lists as a means for asking for information or help on an ancestoral line or some genealogical topic, and for passing on information and help to other list members. Sometimes, however, folks use the list for "one-liners" and replies to others' comments that are merely personal between the two people communicating with each other and which provide no benefit to anyone else on the list. I know, what's wrong with having a little fun on the list? Well, some of us have a very limited amount of time to spend checking our email each evening. Often one cannot tell from the "Subject" of the email exactly what might be in the body of the email. Not wanting to miss anything potentially important to my research, I dutifully open each email. Frankly, it's frustrating to open 49 MAUPIN list messages in a night and find a number of "one-liners" that have no list-wide importance. I wonder how William and Loren feel about this when they come home from an extended trip and find hundreds of messages waiting for them. So, that's a longwinded way of suggesting--If you want to banter back and forth with someone, and you expect that no one else will have any interest in your personal communication, don't hit the "Return" button; send it to the individual and not to the list. That person's email address can be found in the heading after "From:". I apologize if I have hurt anyone's feelings. Sincerely, Warren B. Wood [Gabriel ->Daniel ->Zachariah ->Mariah ...]

    1. [MAUPIN-L] Colonial Williamsburg
    2. M.LYNN TAYLOR
    3. Dear William, I just paid a visit to the Colonial Williamsburg site and have some things to pass on to you. I ordered 4 Taliaferro-Cole replica houses. This doesn't mean they are still in stock but I think they are. One is for you,one for Loren, one for Dorothy Shaffett and one for me. I also ordered a replica of the (not sure of this)Wetherburn Tavern which looks to be the Market Square Tavern. There is a job description advertised just up your alley or Bettye Maupin's. The animals are a scream. AAAAAANNNNNNDddddddd----There is even a picture of the thimble found under the street(Nassau St). There is also a picture of a brick that was found on the same site that while it was cooling off a little kitty left its 2 front paw prints in it. There are several educational type screens that are really genre' screens. There are no Maupins mentioned here. They continually update these screens and would probably be receptive to the Maupin family since it covers a lot of trades and also the family is prominant in its role during the revolution. The Site is truly beautiful. the people putting it together obviously don't belong to the Foudation. The sites have an undercurrent of humor. Polly,Molly, and Dolly are well represented on their own web page-remember the cloned sheep from Scotland? I cannot think of cloning sheep with out thinking about that commercial that came out just after Dolly from Caesar's Pizza. Remember the Scotsman talking passionately and every time he hits this button on his desk another sheep pops up until the window into the lab is 7/8ths full of baaaaaaaing sheep. I love the Devon cattle and how they pose to have their picture take whenever they see a camera pointed at them. Their own page in Williamsburg is in the planning stages. There is a picture of them standing there in high heels!!!!! I cannot sleep. I got in a 30 minute nap and then I was awake again. We have caught up on our rainfall for the year since I got back. Now they have snow in the forecast for here over the weekend. I still have 2 houses to paint on the outside. I can trim trees and paint inside when it is snowing or raining but not outside. Every time I have a problem with this infernal box the format changes. I have finally been able to get to my email in the last 24 hours. I could not read my mail for the last 5 weeks. I still have no security and no sound.! The computers at work were just as bad if not worse. You couldn't put lab orders in around 2400 because it would be 2 days before the request printed. The monitors would dump hours worth of vital signs and the time on the screen would loose 4 hours until about 0500 and then it would correct itself. I know the patient records were not secure because things never showed up where they were supposed to. December 31 ,1997 did not change into 1 -1-1998 it became December 32,1997. Columbia never did retrieve their lost revenue because it was a holiday and a long weekend at that. All the programmers were gone for the holidays. Well at least the critters have warmed up the clean sheets. Take care of your self. 2. William, I would be glad to participate in a research group, even though I'm a relative newcomer to the Maupin_L. Ann Prichard

    3. _____________________ Loren: I offered my opinion. I am flattered by your kind words, but I write fiction, and as I said, I lie a lot. Plus, I felt a little woozy Thursday and my youngest took me back to the motel. I paid less attention to what was being said at the meeting than visiting with others. I couldn't give an accurate account of what happened at the meetings. How about Bob Butler? He wrote a beautiful paper on Jesse. Thanks anyway. Otherwise, would be happy to help. 3. Hi Bill, I thought I would also pop into this conversation. I, too, would like to have a copy of the Maupin's riding with Quantrill-weren't there pictures also? Cant remember. Glad you're on line and doing well. 2. You are probably right about this William. Now if we could just prove it. Oh well, more digging at the library. :-) Vicki
