    1. [MAUPIN-L] BOB MAUPIN
    2. Hi Cousins: A Maupin cousin in San Jose sent me an article from the San Jose Mercury News, dated 5 Nov 2000 on Bob Maupin who lives on his ranch in the mountain community of Tierra del Sol, about 70 miles east of San Diego. She asked if he was a cousin. I'm sure he is! Susan, do you have a phone book that covers that area? It would be great to know which of our families this Bob is from. I see the list is quiet this evening and hope it isn't because of my email on who is the person in charge, etc.. If that seemed terse to any of you, please e-mail me privately. Best, Cousin Sandi

    1. [MAUPIN-L] Sons of Charles Morris Maupin
    2. Leanna Veazy
    3. William, Have not had the pleasure of meeting you, but lots of people speak highly of you, so I thought you would be the person to ask. Do you know anything about George F., John Thomas, Roscoe Lee and Leonard Maupin, sons of Charles Morris Maupin? I descend from George, but have lots of papers concerning John Thomas. I don't believe he had any sons, in fact I think he may have only had one child, a daughter. But I was also wondering about if anyone knows what happened to Leonard. I know Roscoe had several children and wondered if there are any descendents on the Maupin list? I have a few pictures of Roscoe (and his wife). Just curious. Leanna

    1. [MAUPIN-L] directory correction
    2. John & Linda Noel
    3. Hi: The following has been sent directly to William, as he requested, but thought someone on the list may be interested in the information now. Linda Noel Reedsport, OR. I'm sending this in on behalf of my great aunt Florence McNabb (listed under John Maupin and Frances Dabney). She became 93 on Oct. 8, 2000 and still lives in her own duplex. Help comes in weekly for housekeeping. Her mind is just as sharp and clear as ever. The purpose of writing is to give you her new address: 554 Jade St., Sutherlin, OR. 97479 Also a spelling correction for one of the people in her line. The directory shows Minnie O. Peters and it should be Minnie A. Peters. The "A" is for Adella.

I am the listowner and I have allowed some teasing around at time and have been in on it as you all know. As Cousin Phyllis said, we do not want to lose valuable members because of too much chit chat and "one liners." Here is a short guide for posting: 1. Make sure the subject line reflects your post subject. 2. Stick to genealogy and Maupin related things such as the reunion, interesting books, Bills projects, Patrick's project, etc. You may sneak in some chit chat with Maupin related subjects. 3. If a subject matter is of no interest to you, please hit delete. I reali ze we do have a lot of e-mail, tons more than on the other three lists I own and the many lists I am subscribed to. It is nothing for me to receive 200 + e-mails a day and I quickly scan them and if they don't interest me I hit delete. 4. If you have complaints, do not post them on the list. E-mail me personally and we'll handle them together. 5. All smile, hug and lets get on with our fun genealogy work. Remember, we are a family and a HUGE one, at that. There will be times when some are not pleased but you can't please everyone all the time. Best Wishes, Cousin Sandi Carter

    1. Re: [MAUPIN-L] Question re List Procedure
    2. Warren and others, I feel the same way about procedures and replies. In fact the suggestion about the subject line being the EXACT subject line should be done by everyone. That way if you are not interested in a specific line or conversation then you can just delete. But answering other questions or providing information under a different subject line (e.g. about the Quantrill/Jesse James info putting it under a heading of Reunion Information) is not very useful or helpful. Do we have a formal "List Person" who monitors all listings and can give direction when needed or politely inform list that a particular thread needs to be addressed privately ?? Is that Sandi ?? or whom? Thanks for allowing my opinion here. Susan (in San Diego)

    1. [MAUPIN-L] DIRECTORY UPDATE-ADDITIONS AND CORRECTIONS
    2. MAUPIN REUNION 2000
    3. GOOD AFTERNOON, GROUP!!!!! Now that I have finally read the 537 e-mails and answered those I felt I should I am ready to get started on Reunion Items again. As I mentioned before the First Directory was a work in progress project. I have plans to continually update and improve our Directory for the benefit of everyone. The first step is to make ADDITIONS AND CORRECTIONS. If you have an addition or correction please e-mail me privately at maupinreunion@par1.net. In the subject line write "ADDITION" or "CORRECTION". I will correct the original entry and place it on a separate page to be e-mailed to those who request it when the page is full. If you have one of the original Directories, I will post when a "A & C" page is full and ready to be sent to those who wish it. If we all work together we can make this a very good source of information for all. Future plans for the Directory is a cover of plastic or similar material, an index of names, and a page for corrections to be mailed in on. I will eventually put together another chart like the one I designed in the 1980's that Phyllis used in the first two directories. Any comments or suggestions please feel free to let me know. Thank you all for your patience in this endeavor. I promise that in time the Directory will be a real good research tool for all to use. William

    1. [MAUPIN-L] EMAILING TO THE LIST OR NOT
    2. From: James Watson <jdwatson@erols.com> Subject: [MAUPIN-L] Question Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2000 06:31:07 -0500 Cousins--As a recent member to the MAUPIN-L, I have a question on proper procedure. If I see a question or comment on the List and wish to respond to that writer, is it more appropriate to do that using the MAUPIN-L or to just e-mail that writer at their personal email addy? I'm never sure about it, and do differnt things at different times. I noticed that one member was irritated about "one-liners", and I'm just wondering because I don't really know that much about the pros and cons of responding via the MAUPIN-L. Can somebody please enlighten me? Thanks, Denise ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi Denise and ALL: I was sorry to read the email from Mickey and that I wasn't on the list at the time to have seen it then. We do veer off genealogy now and then but we are a family and a little chatting never hurts. There is a closeness on this list and sense of family I do not wish to loose. I have had some people unsubscribe because of the chatting. If you have a complaint, PLEASE email me personally. Sometimes a complaint put on any list will start a flame war and we sure want to stay away from that! I will agree that we should start thanking a person for whatever, or, emailing a person directly if the context of the email has nothing to do with family genealogy or other information we should all know. Also, try to watch the subject line. Lots of people click on delete without reading the context of the email as the subject stated is of no interest to them and they might be missing something they really would like to know. When you all write to the list please give a clue as to what you are looking for instead of just saying "Please put me on the list." "I'd like one." You get the idea. We need to know what list or what it is a person wants, etc. to make it easier on all. We have so many different things going on now and I'm easily confused anyway, so, for me, please give us more facts in email. Best Wishes to you ALL, Cuz Sandi Carter MAUPIN-L - until I get kicked off again! LOL

When I find my copy of the letter written by the Thompson girl where she describes the death of Thompson Maupin I will e-mail it to those who wish to read it. The fact about the death of the soldier who shot Thompson was from the book by Dr. Michael Beshore who was married to Ann Maupin sister to John Rice Maupin. The story was told to the I believe by Jesse and Frank James. Well, will try and get all this together for those of you who wish to hear the details. ============================= Hi All: I don't know how they did it but someone unsubscribed moi from this list yesterday! I didn't notice until I tried to e-mail you all and it bounced back to me as I WAS NOT A SUBSCRIBER! I get the "non-subscriber" posts on anyone. Okay, I resubscribed today but am having to go through ALL the e-mails on our archives to catch up! Bill, I think we all would be interested in the information on John Rice Maupin vs. the Union soldier if you don't mind posting it to the list. Best, Cuz Sandi - hoping not to get kicked of the list again!!!!!!!!

    3. ________________________________________________________ Bill: A couple of people have suggested I write something about the reunion, and I did. But I'm afraid I goofed. Today I sent a sample of an article to Loren for his advice but wrote on the Saturday event at White Hall; and now , as I recheck my e-mail, I see you already have someone for that day. I don't feel qualified to comment on Thursday or Friday however. So, unless Loren thinks my observations of Saturday merit attention, and you think a couple of articles feasible, we'll just leave it be. 1. [MAUPIN-L] Geography of the name(s) Maupin in France
    2. Patrick Maupin
    3. Hi cousins, Here are my first results on the cartography of the name Maupin (and alternate orthographs) for France. I am planning a few maps in the near future at the "commune level", the basic geographical scale in France. France > Regions > Departements > Communes. In the following list you will find the number of Maupins (and the number of similar patronyms) at the regional scale (in capital letters ALSACE) and also at the departemental level (preceded by the official number of this departement). At this point some patterns are evidents : 1) There is in France at least 5 "Maupin" patronyms : Maupin, Mopin, Maupain, Mauppin, Meaupin all with the same pronounciation (a purist like will find littles differences by most of people in France will not notice them). 2) The spatial patterns are not at ramdom. Except Paris which is a special case, strong clusters appear in some regions like Picardie, Poitou-Charentes and Nord-Pas-deCalais and even more concentrated cluster are found in some departements like CHARENTE MARITIME, VIENNE, OISE, SOMME and HAUTE-MARNE. 3) Spatial pattern for alternate patronyms are not at ramdom either. Maupain is found in the west of france almost excusively, there is a very important cluster of Maupin in the SOMME departement. 4) Maupins are absent of certain areas : Auvergne, even though an aunt told me that most be the original Maupin Country, Corse, DOM (overseas territories), Midi-Pyrennees (look at all those zeroes). I will take this research and mapping as a basis and practice for the bigger USGS Mapping project. 2. Phyllis J. Bauer
    3. Denise, I think we should all stop and think before we hit the "Reply" button that sends our messages to the entire MAUPIN-List. Just take a moment and ask yourself is this relevant to my or someone else's research? Or is this just being "chatty?" If it is being "chatty," perhaps it should be a reply to the individual. Some/many of us belong to more than one SURNAME-List and to receive and read 75 or more messages a day can be a very time consuming task even when deleting them after a quick glance. Rather than lose members of the List who might be valuable contributors (this has happened, and may happen again) it is my humble opinion that we keep our messages on track, which means things that concern the MAUPIN family research. 3. Hi Bill, Yes I would have liked to had time to talk about the Croswaite family - I have some info from the Brockman line and "my" Singleton line intermarrying. I took early retirement this year but I am so involved with heriditary organizations, I have not had time to give my research top priority. Bill, thank you for the compliment-glad I am almost a Maupin. A very interesting family. I was re-elected to the Jamestowne Society Council (3-yrs term) and will remain as the Society's Companies Committee Chairman for however long on November 11th. Yes, the Society is gearing up for the 2007 Celebration - the Society will be VERY involved. The Society has reserved the Jamestowne Festival Park for a special event for that weekend. If any of the Maupins descendents can prove a Maupin spouse in Jamestowne between 1607-1700, please let me know with a private email to cafarmer@wt.net regarding same. I have the roster and updates of eligible ancestors and will assist anyone interested.
