Good Evening!!! A BIG THANK YOU TO YOUR, I have never been able to find the Death Date of George Washington Maupin born 3-7-1842 Madison Co. Ky married 3-18-1873 Madison Co., KY to Frances Stivers b. abt. 1858 D. 10-11-1873. He is something you will find hard to believe. George Washington Maupin of the fox hound family fame had two families. The first was an out of wedlock child born 9-27-1872. This boy's mother died when he was very young and the Judge from a county south of Madison Co., raised him. On election day, the first for the boy to vote, George Washington Maupin was at the Court House when he signed in and seeing that he did not use the Maupin name, but was using his mother's maiden name, made a big todo and told the boy he was to use the Maupin name from them on. And he did. He had five children and there are very many descendants of this line living in Jackson and Madison Co., KY. Again thank you this is a rare find. Good Evening!!! I have almost all the the census from 1810 -1920 that contain Maupins on 4 x 6 cards I have all of the 1920 Arkansas. The Maupins you are talking about are most probably the family of George Webb Maupin, then James M. Maupin, then Andrew Jackson. Charlie D. Maupin was Vernons father he was born 3-20-1884 and died 10-1970 in Forest City. St. Francis Co;., AR. They lived very close to Andrew Jackson above. If you need any help on any Maupins census records just let me know. I have taken the 1810-1840 and set them up like the 1850-1920 censuses and have filled in the people in the various age groups. I suggested that they might be Huguenots who fled France to Germany and then emigrated to the U.S. One can easily see that "Mauppin" is not a German name.... > > Does anybody on the list have any Maupins in Arkansas? I know I need to go and check the 1910 or 1920 census, but I am having trouble walking due to tearing my Achilles tendon, and I have to put that trek off for awhile. Strangely enough, this ancestor is the oldest one that the Mauppin I talked to knows anything about! I found myself saying "What, you can't even get back to the 1800's?" but, I guess some people just aren't interested in finding out about their ancestors. > > thanks for any help > > Pat > celtic@ticnet.com > > > > ==== MAUPIN Mailing List ==== > RootsWeb forbids posting of copyrighted material without permission of the author. Dear Patricia, After thinking about this awhile, I guess I would like what is pertinent. I am having no luck in finding anything on the internet related to my ggrandparents in Missouri. I plan on going up there in April and again in June. I know our lines split early on don't they? Some of those days are a blur. I can remember what when on at some of the daily meetings but Friday I had to leave early due to a migraine coming on(from chewing gum). Dear Patricia, What sort of "unzipping" did you have in mind? I have not even had mine developed yet. What sort of pictures do you have? I know I didn't take many of people because I like to set up a "scene" so to speak. I would like a picture of the two of you,Zippy,William and Loren. I wrote William about those 2 ladies but did not get a reply. That day he had gotten 75 emails just in the A.M. I will ask him again. I bet it is the same George. What I am trying to figure out is why John T. Maupin had this copy in his papers. What is the relationship between George Washington and John Thomas Maupin. The paper with the letter on it looks like it was torn out of small book, about 3" x 6" or so. It was stuck inside a little advertising notebook by another life insurance company that had a few handwritten notes in it by John T. I am wondering if the letter was used in the Penn State Life Insurance Co., advertising somehow; as a "satisfied customer" perhaps, and John T. either knew George W. as a relative or wondered himself if they were related, and that is why he kept it. Another mystery to solve.....................Leanna -----Original Message----- From: Jerome & Jane Hawkins <jhawkins@worldinter.net> To: MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com <MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, November 20, 2000 7:10 PM Subject: [MAUPIN-L] George W. & Fannie K. William Bailey Maupin was the son of Dabney Maupin and Polly Shifflett. He may have been named after his grandmother, Susannah Bailey (d/o William Bailey and Mary Alford, gd/o Callam Bailey and Sarah or Susannah Holman, ggd/o Thomas Bailey) He lived in the Kansas City, Kansas area before moving to Oklahoma sometime after 1880. He was worth about $15,000 in 1860, before the Civil War and before his divorce. He was married to 1. Jane Noland 2. Lydia Earnshaw, and 3. Mary Jane Crabtree. William Bailey had 12 children. He was a farmer, a ferry boat operator, he owned a grist mill and a saw mill. He was a brother to my gggrand father, Levi W. Maupin. You must be too young to remember the song "Bill Bailey Won't You Please Come Home." William is a great name! What is your mother's Maupin Line? Sandi, I got your message. Thank you for the information. I was just wondering because my son will be named William and my last name is Bailey. It just seems strange because my mother was a Maupin.
