Sara, Would it be possible to get from you the children's names of William B. Maupin? I know him and Levi were brothers but that all I know. Were those the only 2 children of Dabney and Polly? I don't have any dates on Levi or William. I decend from from John Maupin and Sally Crosthwait but I find all the Maupin lines interesting reading. If you have the time and don't mind, I would like to get some info on the Dabney and Polly line. Thanks Bob Graham
Being intrigued with geneology and finding new cousins, I am thankful for computers and for this Maupin List so to all cousins on the Maupin list, I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving Day. Stay safe and enjoy your families. Cuz'n Leanna

Thanks Denise I checked this out at: <http://antivirus.about.com/compute/antivirus/sitesearch.htm> and below is what was said. Navidad Aliases: Feliz Navidad Type: Worm Systems Affected: Windows 32-bit systems Payload: Bug in virus code can render executables incapable of launching ITW: Yes Origin: Description: Navidad is a worm that arrives as an email attachment named Navidad.exe. There's a bug in the worm that causes other executables not to run. It copies itself to the Windows\System directory as WINSVRC.VXD. However, it registers itself in the system incorrectly, using the name WINSVRC.EXE After infection, if you attempt to launch an application, you'll get the following error message: Windows cannot find WINSVRC.VXD This application is needed for opening files of type "Application" Please keep the above URL for your own information and when you get a virus notice in email you can check to see if it's real or just another hoax. Best, Cuz Sandi
While this does not have to do directly with Maupin research, I put it on this List because their may be those who are new to the Internet and can use the following website to check out real viruses vs hoax viruses. One thing to remember: A good anti-virus program will catch most viruses, but if that program is not updated frequently by going to the website of the software manufacturer, it may be to no avail. While Navidad is a real virus, many of the messages received concerning viruses are hoaxes. The following site gives details about the Navidad virus and from it I have copied what it says. http://w3.gwis.com/~jrich92/hoaxes.htm "Navidad virus/worm continues to worry many computer users. It is more of a threat if you work in a large company on a big network, than for individual users. This is a real virus, but it is of only moderate concern. But you don't need an antivirus software package to detect this one. Just delete any email with an attachment that reads "zipped_files.exe" or "NAVIDAD.EXE" . It only spreads if you have Outlook Express. Don't open email attachments unless it was something you were expecting, further always scan attachments for viruses before opening them. If you practice safe computing then it should not be a problem. Please read section V below to see how you can protect yourself from this and other computer viruses." Hope this is of help to the List. Phyllis J. I forgot to mention that on the Virus--NAVIDAD--, the computer's virus protection program did not catch it. Denise
Hi cousins--I was just notified by someone on another Family List that a trusted frend opened an email from a name that he knew with an attachment that said Navidad, and his whole computer was wiped out. When he checked with the supposed sender, it turned out that he had not sent the email. Just be careful! Denise

Roberta, William Maupin and Orlena Shelton were my ggrandparents. Their daughter, Emma Maupin, sister to Sherman was my grandmother.
I appreciate the clarification. Although I would love to join in on the chat, because of my schedule, it would not be to my best interest. However, I am interested in what people have to share and certainly wouldn't want to miss out on that information. It sounds to me like the intent is still there, which is what I was concerned about. I appreciate your taking the time to explain this to myself as well as others. Have a nice Thanksgiving. Sharron
Hi Cousins: In the event anyone is confused as to why I started the MAUPIN-CHAT-L I want to clear that up for you. MAUPIN-L = Genealogy MAUPIN-CHAT-L = Family visiting, one liners, any topic that doesn't start a flame war. Come join our chat site if you have the time. BTW, if any genealogy just happens to accidently find it's way to the Chat-L, I'll forward it to the list so nobody will miss out. Sharing is the name of the game. So, please keep the GENEALOGY on Maupin-L and the VISITING on Maupin-Chat-L. I want to also take this opportunity to wish you all a great and safe Thanksgiving with your families. Best, Cuz Sandi
Although you put "just" instead of "jump", I knew that's exactly what you meant. I guess I'm getting pretty good at reading the "intent" of the sender. Maybe I should go to FL and help them figure out the intent on all those ballots. Ha! Denise
Hi Cousins: I have requested a chat list and it has been granted! Listen up Pat! Um, you can't do that. I was convinced of this by Jane Hawkins. It's her slam dunk. Now if I could just convince Donald Maupin! I have printed out her response just so I can hand-carry it to him. He's a nice man; I feel sure he'll come around. ;p Pat > Thanks Pat. Now I can add the (?) names of his parents to his line. So, are you going to name him William Maupin Bailey? That sounds good to me! Oops. gotta continue so I won't be accused of just writing one line. Now, if we could only convince Donald Maupin of William Bailey Maupin's ancestors---and get him to let go of John Rice Maupin. :D Pat > Sandi, I got your message. > Thank you for the information. > I was just wondering because my son will be named William and my last name is > Bailey. It just seems strange because my mother was a Maupin.
Hi cousins, Pat <celtic@ticnet.com> wrote : > .... The "family lore" has it that these Mauppins came to Arkansas > directly from Germany, but I find that hard to believe. This is possible. And here is a twisted idea : the french provinces Alsace and Lorraine were German territories between the 1870 and 1914-1918 wars. Today there are still Maupins in this area. (ok, no Mauppins, but maybe at this time there were). I have found only 3 Maupins in Germany (no Mauppins). One is called Guillaume (in Leipzig) and obviously he is french, another Alan (in Baumholder), who might be American. The third is Susana, and she could be from anywhere, but not of german origin apparently. > I suggested that > they might be Huguenots who fled France to Germany and then emigrated to the > U.S. Beware of untimely shortcuts ! : ) Not all Maupins are Huguenots (my family is not) and the reasons Maupins immigrated to America might not be only religion related. Since the religion wars of the 16th and 17th century Maupins from France had many reasons to emigrate : the French Revolutions (1789, 1830, 1848), the napoleonian wars (1800-1815), the franco-german wars (1870, 1914-1918, 1939-1945), and the bad economical situation that resulted from these troubled times. (By the way, did you knew that the 1789 French Revolution was caused by the bad economical situation that resulted from the french involvment in the American Revolution ?) Regards, Patrick
Patrick, You are indeed a fountain of knowledge. I knew that there were connections between the American and French revolutions, but not about the economic problems. That is probably one reason that we purchased the Louisana Territiory from France in 1803. While I can not answer for the rest of the Maupins in Germany, I can account for Alan. He is a 1st Sgt. in the US Army and has been on the list for some time. He was born in Kentucky and will be returning to the United States about the middle of next year. For what it is worth, I was stationed in France from 1963 to 1965 and often went through the town of Jergeau. I just wish I had known then what I know now. One of my paternal ggm was born at Dunville, Ont. She was of Scotish extraction. -- Loren Adams <kycollja@midusa.net> {:-)> HOKC *))))) TSG, USAF, Retired >From Iola, in the rolling hills of SE Kansas
