Dear William, I'm very glad to here you will be posting some information on one of my favorite ancestor's. I'm still trying to find out about the possible lost finger of John Rice. Have found no reference to date. If you or any other cousins get a chance or are in an area where you can rent a movie by the name of Ride With The Devil you should see this movie. Not only was part of it filmed in Lexington MO. but one of our friends home is also in it. There's a scene in the movie where Dutch one of the main charactors get's his little finger shot off. I would like to think that if John lost a finger it was in a gun fight with federal troops. This movie is the best you will find that portrays the border wars in Missouri. Thanks for all you've done and please tell Dorothy Snead HI! from Robbie and Debbie Maupin. Your's Always Robbie Maupin.

    3. Ronda, the house William Allen Maupin and Mary Ann Price lived in during the Civil War and until they both died is just across the street from the cemetery your toured. The street thru there is called Water Street...on some maps it is referred to as River Street. I have a brick from the fireplace and some wood from the siding. I also have pictures of Aunt Laura Maupin Lamb taken in the yard when she was quiet old. The other pictures are of Aunt Laura and I believe her daughter Nell Miller. I also have a letter from your James Allen Maupin to his brother, my great grandfather William Henry Harrison Maupin. I will be glad to type it and send it either on the list of to your e-mail addy. Just have to go thru files and find it. It's very interesting. Also have letters from WHHM to his parents William Allen and Mary Ann written during the war. He was a Lt. More later, Mary

    1. Re: [MAUPIN-L] Re: William B. Maupin
    2. Jerome & Jane Hawkins
    3. Wm B. Maupin was quite a character. He was married three times #1. Jane Noland had 7 children: Ruebin R., Mary E., William H., Samira Ann, Malachi Washington, Missouri, and Jasper DeCalb. Jane died on May 12, 1859. #2.Lydia Earnshaw (He married her on June 3, 1860) had 2 children: Emma June b.October 3, 1860 and Minnie b. February 12, 1863. Lydia was granted a divorce from Wm on August 16, 1864 because of desertion. #3.Mary Jane Crabtree (He married her on February 11, 1865) had 3 children: Nellie Crabtree, Leonora, and Margaret Jarncia b. August 25, 1877 in Kansas. William Bailey worked as a farmer, was a miller in 1860, owned a saw mill on the 1870 census, and was a farmer in Kansas in 1880. William had many law suites against him in Johnson Co., Kansas (he owed people money). I believe William moved to Oklahoma because he is not in Kansas in 1900 or 1910. He died in Durant on January 31, 1918. I believe Willliam Bailey is a brother to Levi Maupin my GGGrand father and a 1st cousin to John Rice Maupin. Hope this information is what you wanted. We were in Wichita, Kansas for Thanksgiving and it has taken me awhile to catch-up on all the Maupin e-mails. Let me know if you would like more. I have some more generations on Malachi, Ruebin, and Missouri Maupin. I also have more information on Levi's children. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Iertg@aol.com> To: <MAUPIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 23, 2000 5:09 AM Subject: Re: [MAUPIN-L] Re: William B. 1. [MAUPIN-L] Obituary for John Rice Maupin
    2. Jerome & Jane Hawkins
    3. Obituary for John Rice Maupin Denison Texas Herald December 16, 1884 Death in the Territory ------- Early last Monday morning John R. Maupin, age forty years, finished his earthly career and folded his arms in death, at his home near Colbert, I.T. Mr. Maupin was known as an honorable and true man, warm and enduring in his friendship and prompt in his business transactions. He was well known in this city and throughout the Territory. By economical management, coupled with untiring energy he had amassed a fortune of considerable extent--leaving an estate worth over $25,000. His remains were interred at Bloomfield academy, with Masonic honors. By his special request Mr. George Massey exercises the right of guardianship over his little daughter Lelah until her mother can take her in charge. Lelah is now attending Miss Spencer's school on Sears street where she has been attending school all the year. Instead of the Catholic school as stated by the Herald-News. For sometime Mrs. Maupin has been in St. Louis undergoing medical treatment, consequently the only member of the dying man's family who watched his life ebbing away was his little daughter Lelah. Mr. Massey informs us that the deceased's papers relative to his business were all found in good order, obviating any trouble in settling up the estate.
