I found the following site which gives the history of this family. http://searches1.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/sd/ziebach/history/z-hst-25.txt >From the first page use your find button and type Maupin. You will be taken to where this starts. Bonnie
Hi, Sandi, I have a birthdate of May 6, 1842, in Ray County, MO with a death date October 9, 1877. Much of my information is from a booklet by Douglas Sampson who is married to Martha Maupin Sidden's great granddaughter, Vesta. They live in Boulder, Colorado. I haven't written to them for a couple years, so am not sure of their health now. Vesta was born in 1913. There are two Isabelle Siddens, so beware. Isabelle Florentine "Tine" Sidden, d/o John and Martha is the first one, she married Spencer Hall Austin. The second one is the d/o of Perry Henley Sidden (s/o John and Martha) and Dellazena Jacobs, she has the same name, but nicknamed "Belle". She was born somewhere between 1894 and 1897. I do have a copy of pages from his book that Douglas Sampson sent me in April 1998, since he would not take any remuneration for copying them, I would be willing to make copies and send them on. At 03:28 PM 12/19/2000 EST, you wrote: >Hi: > >Does anyone have the date of birth for Isabelle? > >Thanks, Cuz Sandi > Lois from Eureka, CA Davis,Field,Black,Hudkins,Sidden,Maupin,Wilkinson,Cathey,Swarts,Malone, Findley, Hall,Bowermaster, Fairchild Bozarth,Luelling,Stallcop,Rathbone(bun),Denham,Farley,VanCleave,Parker,Shaft and more.
It is possible that I am descended from this line. I cannot trace my great grandfather George W. Moppin , who married Emma Sanders in Owen Co.,KY 1883. George was born around 1857 in Morgan Co.,KY. Something happened to George after his marriage to Emma and the birth of 2 children. He and Emma had 2 children: my grandfather Burghett Moppin-Maupins??? and Georgia Moppin McClain. Emma later remarried to JW McDaniel and had 4 other children by McDaniel: William, C.C., Emma and Annie. It was rumored in the family that George W. was hanged(no written proof anywhere I can find) for horse stealing. Don't know where or when this supposedly occurred. In looking at the Maupin lines, we possibly descend from the Crossthwaite/Maupin family. Any information is appreciated. Madge Maupin Haney Ashland,KY nannyhaney@aol.com
Hi: Does anyone have the date of birth for Isabelle? Thanks, Cuz Sandi
Good Afternoon, Group!!! This will be of interest to those of you who are descendnants of John Maupin & Sally Crossthwaite. Sally's father was William Crossthwaite and her mother was Ann Shelton. The 1785 Census of Albemarle Co., VA lists the William Crossthwaite household of six (6) white souls and one dwelling. This would indicate there there were four children still left at home. The only other Crossthwaite in Albemarle Co, was Isaac Crossthwaite with eleven (11) white souls. This was probably William's brother or cousin, and not one of his children. After the death of Wm. Crossthwaite, Ann his wife married Jacob Powers (9-13-1787 in Albe. Co.) Her father Henry Shelton gave consent and it was witnessed by William Jarman and Robert Davis. This consent form would indicate that all of these people lived in the White Hall-Sugar Hollow area.(however, these names were not used at that time) William Crossthwaite died in 1786 leaving several children (apparently at least four). His wife after marring Jacob Power went to Harrison County, KY with her sons Shelton, Thomas, William, Perry and daughter Ann. This lists of names certainly matches the names John & Sally Maupin picked for their children. Recently I found information indicating that there maybe one more child to add to the list of John and Sally children. It was a girl named Margaret who must have been the oldest. Am still working on this information and will let you know if it can be proven. Although no "marriage bond" has been found for John & Sally Maupin, if they had been married under "marriage banns" as I suspect many of the early marriages were that we cannot prove, then they were perhaps married as early as 1781-1785 which would mean that Sally was not part of of the household of William Crossthwaite in 1785. I had until recently wondered why John & Sally family started so late. I have Bell Ann Maupin as the oldest but perhaps she was the second child after Margaret. It is possible also that we are missing other children in this family. Have additional information on this Crossthwaite line that I have found on the web and through talking with Dorothy about this family. I you would like additional information please e-mail me privately. William
Thanks for the info. Jim
Dear Bob & Cousins: Got my copy of your video today and we sat and watched it. You did a great job! We were thrilled to see lots of family, especially Dorothy, Bill, Max and Bettye and Dan. Didn't know who the rest were. But, you all sure had a great time out there. What a beautiful place! When the video scanned in on the cemetery behind the church I drew in breath and our daughter, Kathleen, said "Now Mom, just simmer down and breathe normally. You aren't there to compile that cemetery!" We laughed as I have compiled records in many and am still working on that. Here in Simi Valley, CA it's been super windy since yesterday! I'm waiting for our house to be picked up and moved several blocks, or, wind up being on ocean property! Well, I'll take the wind over all the snow and ice a lot of you all are dealing with. Stay safe! Cuz Sandi

I think John Conlee Maupin followed his brother Thomas Jefferson Maupin to Eureka Nevada. Thomas is listed on the 1870 census. Thomas's son is on the mortality schedule for 1870.I can only conjecture that they were both looking to find wealth in the Comstock Silver mines. I also think John's oldest daughter Carrie stayed in Nevada as she married there. John eventually came to California. His brother, Thomas, settled in Portland Or. Pauline
