Hi All: Willie Gail Maupin was a grandchild of Harry Daniel Maupin~Nancy J. Walker. His/her parents were Ethel V. Maupin~James Ray Armstrong. Was Willie male or female? The book shows William with three children, James Ray, Nadine and Don. On James Ray it says his daughter was Karen Armstrong Titsworth. So, that leads me to think Willie was male or never married. Pauline, You may be correct about "1856" being a "Typo". However at this point in the book she was quoting from the records of Eugene Maupin and neither adding her information nor that from a submitter. You did bring light to an interesting situation. While the Federal Census is taken every 10 years, with some exceptions, it is not always taken on the same date. Some of the earlier census took 9 months (39 for 1820). A - Special Census - is usually taken when a territiry becomes a state. For example, Denver, Pueblo and Colorado Springs are all located in Arapahoe County, Kansas, at the time of the 1860 Census. That part of (now) Colorado, located west of the Continental Divide, was part of the Utah Territory. The Colorado Territory was formed in 1861, when Kansas became a state, and a state in 1876. A Special Federal Census was taken in 1875. At that time Kansas and Texas touched, there was NO panhandle to the "Indian Territory". There were two 3 corner points - KS, TX, CO and TX, NM. CO. Be very aware of: 1. The Census Day - which has varied from January 1 to August 1 with the individual Census. This is the - DAY - IN - TIME - for which ALL questions, on that census, are to be asked and answered. Even if the census taker gets there 6 months later. 2. The date of visitation - by the census taker. This is the day the census taker actually visited the residence. You need to check the top of the page and the page following. The census may have started the page on one date and finished it a day or two later. In otherwise he may have started page 111 on 15 July 1920 (a Friday), and started page 112 on 18 July 1920 (a Monday). The first 3 members of John Doaks family appear at the bottom of page 111 and the other 4 appear at the top of page 112. This would indicate that the information for all 7 members was entered on 18 July. Most census takers will that days business at the corner of a street or road junction - in the country. If there is a long time and/or a lot of residence since the beginning of this enumerators visitations he may tire. Instead of asking " How old was Johnny on July 1st?". It becomes "How old is Johnny?".I wish all censuses were like 1900 - "In what MONTH and YEAR was Johnny born?". pauline darnell wrote: > > Take your pick. Joel w. Take your pick. Joel w. Maupin born 1844 per 1850 census, born 1845 per 1860 census, ??1870 census, born 1848 per 1880 census, ?? per 1900 census and born 1845 per 1910 census. Hence my conjecture is that page 261 is a typo error in Dorothy's book. Pauline

So far, we know of 1 child for Judith and John- Jane, who is not named in her father's will, but is named in her mother's. *********************************message separator**************************************************** I believe that you both have some incorrect information as John Burch Sr and John Burch Jr are my 3rd and 4th great grandfathers. John Burch Sr married 1st unknown married 2nd Judith Maupin Epperson, widow of David Epperson Jr who died 1777 John Burch Jr, [son of John Burch Sr and unknown], married Jane Epperson [d/o David Epperson Sr and Hannah Thompson and sister of David Epperson Jr] 17 Jan 1786 in Albemarle Co VA. John Burch Jr and Jane Epperson had the following children as stated in John Burch Jr's will 1837, Montgomery Co KY 1. Mary [Polly] Burch Maupin: married Bennett Maupin [s/o Matthew Maupin and Lucy Ballard] 3 Oct 1808 in Alb Co VA, she was deceased by 1837 and 50 dollars and no more were to be divided by her 3 children, names not listed. I believed she died many years before 1837. 2. Nancy Burch Maupin: married Carr Maupin [s/o John Maupin and Francis Dabney] 2 Aug 1813 in Alb Co VA. They resided in Montgomery/Bath Co's KY. 3. David Burch 4. William Burch 5. John S Burch 6. Hannah Burch Nichols 7. Daniel Burch 8. James W Burch 9. Sarah Burch Oakley my gg grandmother in her obit it states that "she was born in Albemarle Co., VA., Aug. 20, 1809. At the age of 6, she migrated to Bath County, Kentucky, where she resided until 1838. She married E. S. Oakley, July 9, 1829. The family moved to Putnam Co., Indiana, in 1838 and in 1852 they moved to Effingham County, locating near Mason, Il." It is interesting to note that Caleb Maupin s/o Carr Maupin and Nancy Burch also removed to Putnam Co IN. I posted the wills of John Burch Sr and Judith Maupin Epperson Burch, 24 July 2000 to the Maupin list. I believe confusion lies with Jane Burch being listed as a daughter in Judith Maupin Epperson Burch's will along with Hannah Epperson Sandidge and Anna Epperson Gardner. I feel that since Jane Epperson Burch was Judith's step daughter and former sister in law they had a close relationship ergo that is why she was mentioned. When in Virginia this fall I found the distribution of Judith Maupin Epperson Burch's will and Jane Burch was not included at all. There are still some mysterious facts still unearthed re Judith Maupin, does anyone have any other information re her? Linda Dallas Wolf <ldwolf@capecod.net>
