Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XEz.2ACEB/462 Message Board Post: Hi ! i am searching for any info regarding a didieu family. my ancestor was dominique didieu who moved from bedeille in haute pyrenee's france to new orleans us in 1857. we believe this is not his real name. he changed it but we do not have a clue as to what it was before. there is a family story that monarchists came to see him when he settled in texas and wanted him to reestablish the monarchy. he was told he would have to leave his wife as she was a commoner. he refused as he liked democracy and loved his wife. If you can help that would be great. he is a great mystery and i have sworn that i will find out who he was. could he have been a capet?

    3. William--That is an exciting find about the Maupin lots in Wmsburg. What is now called the Tallifiero-Cole Tenement used to have a plaque on it called the Custis-Maupin House. But I had no idea it was George Washington's wife Martha. She was a widow when she married GW, so she must have lived there w/her first husband. Do you agree? Denise

    2. Maupin Reunion
    3. Good Afternoon!!! Yes, that is the property, but it was Rental Property. The Custis family apparently lived in the country somewhere around Williamsburg. Daniel Parke Custis died in 1757 leaving Martha with two childred a boy and a girl. She married Washington in 1759, but she undobtedly met Martha in or around Williamsburg. Sherri Mason is going to help me get all the data from the "Lot 352" folder at Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. I looked at the material some thirteen years ago but have not gotten around to getting copies. I plan to write a booklet on "Lot 352" for the 2005 Reunion. Am also working on a biography on Thomas Crease. He was born in Norfolk County, England, year not know yet, and came to Williamsburg in 1722, married Marie Maupin in 1723, worked at the Governor's Palace until Drysdale died in 1726 then went to work for William and Mary College. Was rather wealthy, so Marie lived an easy life after marring him. Thomas had six slaves at his death in 1757, plus a good size amount of cash for the time over 400 pounds. He made about 30 pounds a year working at the Governors Palace so you can see he saved a good deal of money. , about thirteen years wages. Now if we could save thirteen years wages today we would all be rich. Dorothy had a fall but did not break anything. She is well again, but slowing down. I hope she can make to the 2005, she is expressing some doubts about going. Hope to hear from you soon. Are you or your husband lawyers? Need to find someone to give a definition on the deeds of sale for the original Maupin House when Marie sold it. Apparently she and Thomas leased it back from the people who purchased it. 3. Good Morning, Group!!! More exciting news!!! For those of you who attended the Williamsburg Trip at the 2000 Reunion and those of you who have been to Williamsburg this will have more meaning. Gabariel and Marie Hersent Maupin lived on Lot 352 in Williamsburg.on August 6, 1714 John Custis purchases Lots 353, 354 and 355 in Williamsburg. These three lots are due east of the Maupin House on the corner. The "Shop" is located on the west end of Lot 353 Lot 354 was and is now vacant and on Lott 355 John Custis built a Tenement House in 1717. While were in Williamsburg the "shop" was closed for repairs but we talked to the man playing the part of the Gardner on the vacant lot to the east. Behind the Tenement House is the grave yard of John Miller Maupin. This is the cemetery discussed several times that is complete disaray. I found online the complete history of these Lots on line that was done in 1950 for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. This history told me many things I did not know about these lots. For example, After John Curtis death in 1749, his son inherited the property, his name Daniel Parke Custis. Does this name ring a bell, it should. Daniel Parke Custis lived only a few years dying in 1757 and his wife took over ownership of the three lots. Her name Martha Custis. Do you recoginize this name?? Well you should because she married George Washington. It does not appear that she and her husband ever lived in the dwelling but undobtedly visited it. And who was living next door. Yes, Thomas Crease, widorer of Marie Hersent Maupin. He had to have know both the Custis family and Martha since he and Marie lived next door from 1723 until her death in 1747and Thomas death in 1757. In 1838, John Miller Maupin purchased the three lots and the "then in bad repair" Tenement House. These lots remained in the Maupin Family until about 1929. 2. Hi all: Wanted to pass this on. Best, Sandi Historical Society to close archives 2003-01-23 By The Associated Press The Oklahoma Historical Society will close its archives, research library and newspaper reading room next month to save money and consolidate its research facilities. A statewide budget shortfall has resulted in the loss of $1.7 million in revenue to the Historical Society over the past year, executive director Bob Blackburn said. Budget problems have forced a 20 percent reduction in staff positions plus eight furlough days for staff members. Blackburn said the society had planned to consolidate its research facilities at the new Oklahoma History Center, scheduled to open in 2004. "We have had to accelerate that plan to meet budget problems and therefore fewer staff positions," he said. The reading rooms will be closed on Feb. 1 and will reopen March 1. When the research facilities reopen, visitors will go to one reference desk to use all materials, Blackburn said. The society was founded in 1893 by the Oklahoma Press Association to collect newspapers printed in the state. The society now has more than 30 million individual pages of newspapers, representing more than 4,000 titles and 95 percent of all the newspapers ever printed in Oklahoma.

Many of the items listed were not mentioned in his will. Undoubtedly most of these items would have belonged to our Marie Hersent Maupin Crease, since she had only died ten years earlier. Six slaves are listed. Remember Thomas and Marie lived in Williamsburg in the house on lot 352 which was located at the corner of the Duke of Glouster Street and Naussau. 3. Hello William, I am still on the list and diligently reading all email from Maupin at rootsweb. I am also still searching for the parents of my Nicholas Sneed/Snead who married Sarah (Sally) McDaniel in Albemarle County, Va., in 1820. I have not had any luck in doing so. I received a letter from a current Benjamin Snead presently living in Albemarle County and he cannot connect Nicholas with any in his line. I believe he indicated that his Snead group came from Louisa as well as Albemarle County. A few other Snead researchers have been unable to tell me the children of Jacob Snead. Sarah McDaniel and Nicholas had my gggrandfather John William Snead who married Mary Anne Tooley. It is her descent from the Maupin line by way of Daniel Maupin and Margaret Via to Zachariah Maupin and Elizabeth Jarman through to a Walton and then a Tooley. So as you can tell, the Via line connects through Mary Ann Tooley. But obviously there is a Sneed family who knew the Vias in Albemarle and somewhere along there Nicholas has to connect. I know that this isn't helpful for you all in finding out more about Sneed Via. But just keep me in mind if something comes along that might connect with Nicholas. I am still searching...... 3. Sandi and all, I appreciate your asking for our support in prayer for our troops as they do their duty for our country. My husband is in the National Guard and has already done one peacekeeping tour in Bosnia. Now we are waiting word as to whether or not his unit will do a tour on Homeland Security or overseas. Whether you support a war with Iraq or not, our soldiers are still leaving home for months at a time and it is such a hardship on them and their families. Believe me I know, I've been there. So I appreciate all the prayers that go up for our troops and their families. Thanks and God Bless, Leanna Veazey ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 17, 2003 10:01 PM Subject: [MAUPIN-L] *OUR*PEOPLE*IN*THE*SERVICE* > Hi All: > > Whether you support the impending war in Iraq or not, I'm asking you to > please pray for our people in the service who are over there and those on > their way.
