    2. John Miller Wood, b. 12/4/1836 Alb. Co., VA, and d. 8/4/1904 Alb. Co. was in the Civil War and applied for pension. He married on 12/4/1856 Alb. Co. to Julia A. Estes. I have always seen her name written or referred to after this marriage as Julia A.E. Wood. John M. and Julia A.E. Wood gave birth to a daughter, Joanna "Josie" Alverta Wood, b. 8/9/1860 Alb. Co., d. 7/17/1915 Alb. Co. Joanna "Josie" Alverta Wood married in Alb. Co. on 9/2/1879 Clifton Price Maupin, b. 1/8/1840 Alb. Co., d. 5/13/1901 Alb. Co. Clifton Price Maupin was in the Civil War and applied for pension. He was the son of Clifton Maupin and Elizabeth Maupin. Clifton Price and Joanna A. Wood Maupin gave birth to a daugher on 12/22/1898 in Alb. Co., Florence Alverta Maupin. Florence Alverta Maupin died on 1/8/1994 and is my grandmother. Any guesses as to where this Miller name is coming from in this family?? Clifton Price and Joanna Wood Maupin had a son, Clifton Miller Maupin, b. 7/7/1888. Thank you for your help! Still finding clues that William Turner Wood could have had a first wife, Nancy?? Brenda Clark Albemarle Co., VA

    2. Rose Marie Martin
    3. ---------- From: Rose Marie Martin[SMTP:[email protected]] Sent: Market Square Tavern is located at the intersection of Queen & Duke of Gloucester (D.O.G.) Streets. It is one of few original buildings remaining in Williamsburg; the majority are reproductions. Chowning's Tavern is located directly across D.O.G. Street. From: Colonial Williamsburg Official Guide Book: Market Square Tavern " In intermittent use as a hostelry during three centuries, the restored Market Square Tavern is today operated in the same capacity by Williamsburg Inn. The most celebrated colonial lodger was Thomas Jefferson, who rented rooms here from Thomas Craig, tailor, while studying law under the guidance of George Wythe. Gabriel Maupin later purchased the property 'for the Purpose of Keeping Tavern,' and moved his saddlery and harness-making business here. Patrick Henry was one of his customers for saddles. From about 1775 to about 1791 Maupin also served as keeper of the Magazine--conveniently located next door. Maupin christened his son George Washington, a custom soon to be followed by thousands of his countrymen. The building offers a good example of the way in which many colonial structures grew gracefully over the years by means of frequent additions. The eastern portion of Market Square Tavern is the earliest and contains a handsome 'Great Room' which is completely sheathed and paneled with the original pine in natural finish. The kitchen yard played an important part as a work area, and the garden provided a pleasant place for games and sociability. The coach house and paddock in the rear no longer provide quarters for blooded coach horses, but the tavern's garden with its fruit trees, flowers, and herbs, is still favored by Williamburg visitors as a place for strolling and relaxation. Sometime after the old Raleigh Tavern burned to the ground in 1859, this hostelry on Market Square became known as the Raleigh Hotel, a name it proudly bore until well into the present century." Hope this information is of assistance to Maupin researchers. Rose Marie Martin 901 South East St. Culpeper, VA 22701 Phone: 540-825-1919 E Mail: [email protected] ----------

I have printed this information and will see if it can be put to good use. I am leaning that William Turner Wood did marry twice; once to Patsy Maupin and later to Nancy Fielding. Thanks again!! 3. I have a a William T. Wood & Patsey Maupin and marriage bond issued December 17, 1827. The bondsmen were Joel R. Maupin and Zachariah Wood. Patsey was the daughter of Thomas Maupin, who gave consent, which was witnessed by Chapman W. Maupin & Joel R. Maupin. In addition, a William T. Wood & Nancy Fielding and a marriage bond issued June 19, 1846. The minister was Jacob Manning. The bond was provided by Joshua H. Johnson . Nancy was the daughter of Eppa Fielding, who gave his consent, which was witnessed by F.H. Brown & Joshua H. Johnson. But before the above , a William Wood & Martha Kinsolving had bond issued December 22, 1817. The bond had the name of Patsey and not Martha. The minister was Benjamin Burger. The bondsman was Joel Yancey , witness was William Wertenbaker. Martha was the daughter of James Kinsolving who gave his consent, which was witnessed by J. B. Kinsolving & Joel Yancey. The consent form and minister return used the name Martha. I hope this is some assistance to you. I love the the name Kinsolving , he must of been into genealogy. But, we never heard anything else about Johnson's family line. I have a number of Johnson relatives. Interesting as some are Choctaw and some are Chickasaw and some I don't know about yet. Also, before I forget, there are some Maupinites on this list who haven't responded as to whether they want to be in the new Maupin Family Directory we are putting together. It will be some months before it's done. But, you know if you haven't responded. If you are interested, please email me privately. Why not back to the 2nd weekend.. schools are usually out. I remember one year I wanted to come and had a trip planned to MO.. but my school was out the day after the reunion. I went to MO, but of course the reunion was over. Why not consider a permanent date so everyone will know when to put it on the calendar? My husband's line has done that and it is easy to remember ... we always know which weekend.. the last weekend in June. Thanks for consideration, Ellie
