If I remember right (?) the "Census Day" for 1920 was 01 Jan 1920. This is the "Moment in time" for which all questions were to be answered. As to the day the Census Taker actually arrived at the door to ask the questions It would have been anywhere from a few days to about a month later. Each census has a "Census Day" but that day has changed from Census to Census. Jan 1, Apr 1 and Jul 1 have been frequently used. Hope this helps. Yes, by all means - go to Google.com, type in Maupin and MO or anywhere in fact, and you will find thousands of references to the name of Maupin. Also, there is a history of the Baptist University on the website. Usually if I want to "find" something- anything, I go to Google.com first. That might be a start. I saw his history at one time several years ago in a library.. but it escapes me where I saw it. It might have been the book on "The History of the Missouri Baptists" (not sure if that is the exact title).. but something of that sort. It told of many men who were instrumental in starting churches in pioneer Missouri.. A very good book, if you can find it.. Ellie
Don't know if you have seen this query. Is there anyone who could help this person. Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 28, 2003 1:11 PM Subject: [MOLEWIS] Family of James Rogers Maupin This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ANB.2ACI/539 Message Board Post: Seeking the names of the parents of a very important man named James Roger Maupin, who was born in Schuyler Co., MO on June 19, 1852. His unknown father was a wagon builder. Shortly after James Rogers Maupin was born, his immediate family moved to Illinois where he and his three younger brothers attended the public schools. In 1873, he entered old LaGrange College at LaGrange, Lewis Co., MO where he graduated in 1877. While attending this college, he pastored the Ten Mile Church of Lewis Co., MO. In 1874, he was ordained to preach by the First Baptist Church of LaGrange. In 1877-78, he attended a seminary in Chicago. On June 4, 1878, he married Alice Jane Staples of Canton, Lewis Co., MO, who was a member of the church which he pastored while being a student at the old LaGrange College. Perhaps some reader would be willing to examine college records, marriage records, or church records in an attempt to find the names of the parents of James Rogers Maupin. He lived only 33 years, but accomplished more in that short period than most men do in a normal life-time. James Rogers Maupin was the founder of Southwest Baptist University of Bolivar, Polk Co., MO, the largest Baptist college in Missouri. SBU recently celebrated its 125th year of existence. He died in Kansas City, MO on October 8, 1885. He with his wife and two of their four sons were buried in the Greenwood Cemetery of Bolivar, MO. As a dynamic speaker, he was in great demand to address both public and church events. He literally wore himself out raising money and recruting students for his newly-founded college. Often he would ride his horse all night to get back to the college campus to teach his Greek and other classes the next morning. Whatever help can be given in finding the names of this man's parents would be appreciated. This researcher is attempting to connect him with the other Maupins who settled in central Missouri, after migrating from Virginia and Kentucky. ==== MOLEWIS Mailing List ==== Need help or have questions about the list?
