While searching for more information on my GG-Grandfather James Rosser Maupin of J. R. Maupin of Glendower/Scottesville, Va. I found reference to him in a 1913 article about the 50th anniversary of the Confederate Veterans at Gettysburg. Twice he is mentioned in the article. This was a nice surprise. It was found on the Scottsville, Va Museum site: http://scottsvillemuseum.com/war/gettysburg/home.html There was also another article in the Scottesville Museum's archives mentioning another Maupin. I do not know how she might be related to me, but, perhaps some of you might have a connection to her. Amanda D. Maupin married to David H. Clark. The name Pleasant is used quite a few times in the Burgess family there just as it is in the Maupins of White Hall. http://scottsvillemuseum.com/portraits/homeM43cdKM02.html Sherry Mason
Good Morning, Group!!! Have finished working in TN, will be in Ky tomorrow. Have excellent luck on George Webb Maupin's line. Many and I do mean many of this line still live in Williamson County, Maupins, Warrens, Hughes, Bazells, and several other names. Have contacted a few of the Maupins, invited them to the Reunions. Same stories keep coming up: "The Maupins in TN have blond hair and blue eyes, they look just like the Maupins in Madison Co. KY" Heard this quote twice in TN. Rumor was among the Tn Maupins that Daniel Maupin of Madison County, KY had two wives at the same time one in TN and one in KY. I correct this "big" error. However, the TN early Maupins must have been in contact with the KY Maupins because they knew of and was involved with the Fox Hound thing. Hope to see alot of you at the June Reunion. Invite another cousin and help create a big interest in the Reunion. Dorothy will not be there on Saturday, but hopes to make it on Sunday. Vi is not doing well, Dorothy hates to leave her alone. Will write again in KY. William
I would, also, LOVE to have copies of your pictures. Would you send them to me, too? Thank you SO MUCH!!! Your fellow Maupin 'cuz, Michelle L. Sherry, Glad to hear that you enjoyed your trip to Virginia. Did it feel like you had come home? If you think that it's humid now, just wait until July, there are days when my stick-straight hair actually curls because of the heat. This is prime thunder storm time, I love this time of year! But then again, I have never lived outside of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Did it feel like you had come home? I myself had that feeling every time that we visited Williamsburg & Jamestown, and never knew that I had ancestors who actually lived and died there. I am descended from the MAUPINS through Judith Maupin( born 1752 in Albemarle Co) daughter of Gabriel Maupin and Anne Ballard, she married David Epperson Jr (who died at Valley Forge). I grew up with lots of Maupins at school and church, there was even a little store called Maupin's Grocery that we frequented. Mom always said that we were related to Maupins, but she wasn't even sure how. Come to find out that it was on her father's side of the family. Heck, seems that I am related to most everyone in my area (Charlottesville, va) Now I finally know why I loved American History so much in school! I would love to see your photos. My mother was just given all of her mother's photos, 35 years after her death, she said that it was the best Mother's Day present that she has ever had. Is there anyone on our MAUPIN list that descends from John Maupin of Franklin Co. MO? The eldest son of Leah Downey Maupin.. ? Another cousin and I would like very much to "talk" to you(s).. Thanks!!! Ellie S.
Good Afternoon Group!!! I am in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, TN working on the George Webb Maupin Line. This morning I was talking with a fellow in the research room and he ask me what line I am working on. I said, Maupin, Warren, Bazell. When I ask him what lines he was working on he replied, the same ones you are. I said no, what lines are you really working on. He said the same lines you are working on. He is a Warren descendant and has worked on the Maupin and the Bazell lines as well. I could not believe it. Tomorrow he is taking me to Nolensville, Williamson County, TN where the Maupins and Warrens are buried. Mostly in field stone graves but at lease I will be able to see where they lived. Another item of interest to a few of you. Worked the complete line of the Mauppin family of Cross County, AR while I was there. The name first appears on the Census as Mauppin in 1880, then in 1900, but the family used the name Maupin until 1910. Now they all use the Mauppin. This familis is a George Webb Maupin line from his youngest son James M. Maupin/Mauppin. Hope as many of you as possible can make the Reunion June 1 in Fulton, Missouri.
