This may or may not have any bearing but I did notice that there was a Henry Mattingly (as per HEM) who owned a piece of property in Frederick Co (that part that later became Carroll County) called "Pretty Prospect" in 1787 And then in 1795 there is a Henry Mattingly (reportedly received land for his service in the Revolution) who "discovered some vacant land; petitions resurvey and wants to combine tracts and vacant land into one to be called "Pretty Prospect"." This seems to indicate a migration up from SMC to northwest MD and then into western MD. Being in Frederick Co in the 1780's might indicate some connection to the John Mattingly that died there in 1773. Paul Mattingly Atlanta, GA
