Hello List! I have a number of Luke Mattinglys in my file and am sure that some could be merged to reduce the population somewhat. I wonder if you have the Luke Mattingly s/o John Mattingly, s/o Cezar Mattingly (I think) married, and if so who might be his loving wife? I have a cryptic record from THE HISTORY OF UNION COUNTY KENTUCKY, 1886, p. 837 that states that Jeremiah Mattingly's father was Lucius Mattingly and his mother Miss Spalding, both born in St. Mary's County, Maryland. However I can find no record of such a marriage to date. It goes on to state that this Lucius and his wife, Unknown Spalding, settled in the Hardin Creek Settlement in the very early days. If this has a grain of truth in it, it seems likely that John below could be the father of the Luke (Lucius) the father of Jeremiah etc. What do you think? I have not as yet found a will for the John Mattingly featured in the probate record below.
