During the 1930 census the mysterious Clarence Mattingly is found in St. Mary's, Perry County, Missouri. His wife is still named as Gertrude but the children are Olive 12 (must be the child listed as Alin E. in 1920) and Oville 7. The son of Reuben Mattingly and Mary Chavaux was still living at home in 1930 so this is obviously a different Clarence. Also in St. Mary's was Bernie Mattingly (William Bernard, son of Charles Brown Mattingly). Bernie was born in 1891 but the next youngest child was born in 1900. I'm wondering if anyone has seen anything which places this Clarence as a son of Charles Brown Mattingly. ************************** >From all I've seen Clarence was not married until 9-12-1939 to Mary Gladys Duvall and he appears on the 1930 census as a single man, aged 34. The 1920 census of Saline, Perry County, however, shows a Clarence Mattingly, aged 25, with a wife named Gertrude E., aged 20 and a daughter named Alin E. aged 1. This looks strikingly like Clarence but I'm not aware of an earlier marriage. Any thoughts?
