    3. Hi Charley ! I also have a William C. Mattingly of McLean County, KY but I have him as the son of Lewis H. Mattingly and his first wife, Margaret Watkins m. Jan 11 1819, Washington Co., KY. This William C. Mattingly is found in the 1860 census married to Elizabeth: 1860 US Census, McLean County, Kentucky, June 13, 1860, Rumsey, Kentucky, Ancestry.com Image #13 79 76 William C. Mattingly, 35 M W Merchant $1500 $1000 Born in Kentucky Elizabeth 25 F W Kentucky William Lewis 6 M W Kentucky Lillian Mary 4 F W Kentucky James Herbert 5/12 M W Kentucky William Lucas 42 M W Tailor $100 Kentucky Thomas Jones 22 M W Laborer Kentucky Louisa Bailey 50 F W $100 Kentucky Rhoda Jones 19 F W Kentucky Daniel Mattingly 20 M W Merchants Clerk Kentucky Martha Bailey 6 F W Kentucky **************************************************************************** ********************* I think I might know where the daughter of Joe Monarch note came from, The Mattingly Manuscript in the Filson Club in Louisville. Since the William C. Mattingly that married Trecy Gertin was only 20 years old and she was 17 at the time of their marriage in 1827, I have assumed that it was a first marriage for them both. There is always the possibility that William C. married a Monarch girl and she died very soon there after, though. However, I have not, to date, been able to find a record of a William Mattingly/Monarch marriage, and heavens knows, I've looked. I totally agree with you that Libers and folios are in order to straighten out this William C. Mattingly mystery and if I had any left unpromised, I'd give my eye teeth to find them. For now though, and until somebody proves to me that he is not, I have that William C. Mattingly who married Trecy Gertin, is the son of Leonard Mattingly, Jr. and Ann Cissell.
