Morning List! If anybody wants a scanned copy of any of the court records I happen to have please e-mail me and I will be glad to provide them to you. I find it intriguing that Charles William Mattingly may have married his first cousin, daughter of his father's brother, Martin. Wonder how they managed that? The priest must have been asleep at the pulpit. There is a confusion apparently for her birth date also. The 1870 Census says she was 27 or born in 1843 The 1880 Census says she was 32 or born in 1848 The tombstone says born Sept 15 1842 per Sandra Reynolds, and St. Charles Baptismal Register 1829-1857 says Martin Sr.'s daughter Ann was born Sept. 4, 1841. There is also Ann Malvina Mattingly born Dec 25 1842, daughter of John & Eliza Ann (Newton) Mattingly St. Charles Baptismal Register). Both John (d. 1852) and his wife Eliza appear to be dead in the 1870 Census and Ann is no longer shown in the household of her grandfather James Newton as she was in 1860. Now she would have only been a 5th cousin of Charles William. But who knows? Isn't that just typical? Genealogy is such fun.
