    3. It's entirely possible that Thomas was the son of Richard. Clement was on a tax list abt. 1801 Breckinridge Co, though, although I don't have a source for it. I think Breckinridge was formed from part of Hardin about 1800. Hardin formed from Nelson 1792 - so there could have been minor or no moves but changes in the taxing county. In addition to the information from Julia, I work with the following: 1. I have an Anna MATNA who married William Reynolds 1832 Bartholomew IN. Clement and Uriah MATNEY lived in Bartholomew at the time; it is assumed that Anna and children were the extra members in Clement's household 1830. She later appears as widow Reynolds, living in the household of son Daniel Matney. Another son Joshua lived in the approximate area in Bartholomew Co. 1840 as Clement and Uriah were when they died. I have been working on solid proof via land records, but have not yet made the definitive connection. Daniel moved to MO with Stephen and Uriah's family for several years after 1850, returning to neighbor Joshua and sister Alcy Nickerson 1870 Fulton Co., Illinois. Both Uriah and Stephen married as MATTINGLY in Hardin Co., KY. Clement's son Elias married as Mattingly in OH. Uriah died in IN, Stephen first moved to Arkansas, then into southern MO., with Uriah's family. Elias remained in IN. 2. Neither Clement nor Uriah made a land patent claim in Indiana; however, Hannah CARR and John CARR (no connection made) both had land patents in the county (Bartholomew IN) at the time. I'm not sure that Hannah was part of the Carr family from KY, though. 3. Richard's son Thomas, by tax notations, was somehow disabled as early as 1819. While he may have married Anna, and had children, I would think that Richard would have mentioned them in his will, seeing as Thomas was not able to provide for them. My Anna had at least three children. Of course it's also possible he didn't see a need to provide for them if she'd moved on and remarried. If this were the case, and my Anna was Richard's daughter in law, then Richard and Clement must have been close relatives. 4. No one has found Clement on the 1820 census. Stephen was in Hardin Co, KY, and there was a Sarah Mattingly nearby. The census is difficult to read, but it's possible that this was Clement's Sarah, with a young woman with a young child in her household. She lived next door to John Ford and Walter Headrick. Walter Headrick, I believe, was the step-father of William Rogers, father of my Susannah Rogers who married Joshua Matney. A Robert Ford signed the marriage bond of one of Clement's children. Uriah was in Jackson Co., IN. Elias, another son, was just north also in IN. To note, there was a Thomas Matney in Washington DC 1820, one younger man and one older. I have absolutely no proof of who this was, and would guess that if Clement were the older man, he'd be listed rather than Thomas, but it's interesting. 5. Thomas Mattingly and Anna Carr were married by Samuel Eslick in Breckinridge, KY. Samuel Eslick and his son Artis, were friends and later relatives of Clement, Uriah, and Stephen, moving with them from KY, to Indiana, to southern MO. Also to note, on the 1791 Tithables, Nelson Co. KY, there appeared a Barton and Clemon MATLEY. A Phillip MATLEY had appeared 1787. I think this was our Clement-his sons did use the MATLEY spelling in Indiana. I understand this is somewhat (!) convoluted and quite sketchy, but most definitely, somewhere in the shuffle is a Mattingly, relative of Clement and my ancestor. I'm certainly open to all suggestions and corrections - please do!
