Does anyone know of a John Mattingly who is listed as a blacksmith in DC in the 1850 Census? He has a wife Mary E. Mattingly and an Ellen Mattingly (4). John is listed as age 41 and Mary as 30. All born in DC. BTW, John and Mary E. can't read or write. He shows up in the 1853 DC City Directory but then not again as the only next one I copied was 1860! The reason I'm interested in this couple even though things just don't add up correctly is the fact they practically lived across the street and a little down the block from my great great grandparents whose daughter married my Thomas Joseph Mattingly! Oh, well...always crasping at something! LOL Best, Elizabeth
