Jerry, I think you're right. The George who married Mary Shannon was a grandson of Ignatius, Jr. and son of George, Mattingly Sr. and Elizabeth Wimsatt. *********** >I do not believe that the George Mattingly that married Mary Shannon was the >son of Ignatius jr. That George was born about 1775 and married Elizabeth >Wimsatt.
I have Elizabeth Wimsatt,(bapt. May 20 1770) m. to George Mattingly son of Ignatius Mattingly, Jr and Eleanor Shircliffe, is the dau. of Robert Wimsatt and his wife Dorothy Abell. Robert Wimsatt was a Soldier in the Revolutionary War and died in February of 1797 in St. Mary's County, Maryland. I could find no will for him but did find some estate settlement accounts that named each of his 9 Children and Elizabeth's name was among them. (May 6, 1801) Dorothy Abell was the daughter of Samuel Abell, Jr. who is also known as "the High Sheriff" since he was the last "High" sheriff of St. Mary's County, MD. in 1776 as the office of "High" sheriff was abolished with the Revolution. ole Sam died in 1777 and his will was probated July 15 of that year in St. Mary's County. He is also designated as a Revolutionary Patriot due to the fact that he held office during the War of the Revolution. These people are my grannies and granddaddies so I really "dig" them. :) Judith Burger PS.
