I find myself a little confused about recent posting concerned with Cosmos Mattingly, In one place Cosmos Mattingly has been referred to as the son of Felix Mattingly and Mathilda Spalding. In another place a Cosmas Mattingly is referred to as the father of Phillip Mattingly who is identified as a black widower, with children referred to as black Later he seems to be remarried -- to a mulatto and has several mixed blood children. Were Felix Mattingly and Mathilda Spalding black?
