Can anyone help me with this one? The 1910 census of Washington, Daviess County, Indiana shows Charles E. Mattingly aged 60. His wife was Indiana Unknown aged 53. They had just one child who was deceased by 1910. The 1880 census of Daviess County, Indiana shows Charles E. Mattingly aged 28 with wife Indiana aged 2, and one son, George A. age 4. The couple were residing next door to Charles father: William Mattingly aged 50 and Lydia 32. 1870 finds William in Harrison, Daviess County, Indiana aged 41 and his wife Margaret was 52 (I believe a 2nd wife). Children in the home: John S. (maybe L.) aged 16, Sarah 18, Eliza E. 15, Charles E. 19, and Mary 7. 1860 shows William in Van Buren, Daviess County, Indiana aged 32 and wife Nancy 29. Children were: Charles 10, Sarah Jane 8, Liza Ellen 5, and Mary Elena 1. During 1850 William was aged 23. In the home were Jane 73 (likely his mother or Grand-mother), Nancy 20 (William's wife), Eliza 35, and Elizabeth 25. The latter I presume were sisters. The 1840 census shows several Mattingly's but the likely father of William was Henry, between the ages of 30 and 40. Henry had one son 5 to 10, one 10 to 15, and one 15 to 20. Daughters: One 10 to 15 and one 15 to 20. The eldest woman was 40 to 50. I have no idea who this Henry was but it does not seem to be the Henry who helped found St. Augustine, Illinois although their age is close.
