    3. Hello, Would anyone have a Mrs. Dorothy Mattingly who died in DC at the age of 45? She apparently died on July 4 and the obit is listed on July 7, 1851. I don't find any Mattingly married to a Dorothy ??? in the DC marriage book. Thanks so much! Elizabeth Culhane Fairport, New York

    1. DNA TESTING

    3. When it comes to the issue of DNA testing I am admittingly totally lost but one of my family lines has been doing testing for about a year now and the results are a lot of people finding out they are not descended from the lines in which years of research had placed them. I'm not suggesting we do such a thing with the Mattingly line but would like to explore the accuracy of this stuff more fully. If we ever did such a thing it might help bring a lot of 'currently' disconnected families together. That is given this is an accurate process. Anyone know where information might be gleaned?

    3. Thanks Judith. I've been checking a few sites and will look at that one too. That stuff is expensive and I just wonder if it's as accurate as they claim.

    3. William, The following link will give you information on Family Tree DNA testing. My brother participated in group testing of our surname with this company, and the results linked us to a line that we had not researched. Although we still haven't found our 'missing link', it's caused us to change our focus. http://www.familytreedna.com/facts_genes.asp If anyone is thinking about DNA testing, I recommend you participate in a group surname project so that your results can be compared to other participant results. I have no connection to the Family Tree DNA company other than our participation in a surname group project at their site. I checked the Family Tree DNA site and do not see a MATTINGLY project; however, the above link should give you information to help you decide if you would wish to participate in a project.
