Augustine Mattingly was not born in Pennsylvania, but rather in Arcola IL. He was baptized there on 29 nov. 1880. His father Jerome J.was born in Bedford County PA in 1847, moved to Zanesville OH about 1868. He married his second wife, Margaret Byrnes at Paris IL in 1877. Augustine's 13 children are listed in Fr. Herman Mattingly's study of the descendents of Henry Mattingly, p. 119. In 1969, when Herman published his book, Augustine was living at 1024 Hartzell St., New Haven IN. He was a first cousin of my grandfather Jerome J. Burkey.
