    3. I see a Charles Mattingly age 39 with Catherine 28 and children Nancy 2 and Mary 8/12 in the household of Basil Mattingly in Marion Co. KY in the 1860 census. This would seem to be the Charles who married Catherine Madden. I don't think this is the Charles and Catherine listed in the 1850 census with children George and Francis.

Catherine Mattingly James Mattingly, X his mark Rebecca Mattingly, X her mark Ignatius Mattingly, X his mark Emily Mattingly, X her mark Karen Fowler Caldwell <caldwel@kyol.net> 2/18/2001 -------------------------------------------------------- I have an Ignatius Mattingly who married an Emily Knott. I am not aware of either of their parents but am thinking now that this Ignatius might be one of the sons Karen mentions. I show he was b. abt 1826 in KY d. 8/4/1894 in Marion Co, KY and is buried in St Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Marion Co, KY. I know little of Emily Knott other than she and Ignatius were the parents of at least 6 children of which James William "Will" Mattingly their oldest son married Elizabeth Jane Alvey on Oct 13, 1874 in Marion Co, KY. She was the dau of Carey Francis Alvey and Susan Ann Howard. That is if I have all my facts correct!! If this is one son then we have two to go. I do not have a Charles and Catherine or a James W and Rebecca that are a close match. Bob BobcatBob@aol.com <BobcatBob@aol.com> 2/18/2001 ------------------------------------------------------------------ This is pretty exciting for me. Don't know about the rest of you. Have to get my sons in bed so they can go to school tomorrow but let me post this. Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this as I just made a very quick look. 1880 Census Marion County: Ignatius Mattingly age 55 born about 1825 (don't find him yet in 1850) Emily 50 Richard 20 John 18 Frank 15 Simion 8 1850 Census Marion County: James Mattingly age 35 born abt 1815 Rebecca 25 Margaret 8 months Charles Mattingly age 23 born abt 1826 Catherine 24 George 4 Frances 1 There was a 50 year old Elizabeth Mattingly residing with the family. The reason there are no marriage records for them is that Marion Co., although formed from Washington Co. in 1834, did not start keeping marriage records until 1852! So, Ignatius' first wife, Eliza Jane, having borne 6 children in eight years, likely dies bearing the 7th in 1851. Ignatius marries Emily shortly before Marion Co. starts keeping marriage records, and THEIR oldest son, James...see above.
