    3. William, I agree it is very unlikely that Charles Mattingly who married Catherine Herbert in 1848 was a brother to Benedict born 1811. I think the Charles Mattingly listed in the 1850 census of Marion Co. KY age 23 with wife Catharine 33, George 4, Francis1 and Elizabeth age 50 is the same Charles. I would suspect this would be closer to his true age and that the age 39 in the 1860 census was quite a bit off. I don't have an explanation for George age 4 - perhaps Charles had been married before. I suspect the Elizabeth was mother of Charles. This Elizabeth would not have been Elizabeth (McPherson) Mattingly as she was listed in Washington Co. KY with Benedict in 1850. ----- Original Message ----- From: "William R. 3. The Charles you mention was reportedly a son of Basil Mattingly and Nancy Budges and while I am told that his wife was Catherine A. Madden, I'm not entirely sure that is correct. In fact, I'm not certain where I got that information any longer. Maybe someone can straighten this out for us because I've seen no marriage records for Catherine Madden but you have submitted evidence of the Herbert girl and I know that the LDS site lists Charles wife as Catherine Herbert. ************************************ > William, I agree it is very unlikely that Charles Mattingly who married > Catherine Herbert in 1848 was a brother to Benedict born 1811. 3. William there is a record in MARION COUNTY, KENTUCKY VITAL STATISTICS 1852-1862 1874-1876, by Margaret Clark Kington, p. 55 wherein it states that Nancy born June 6 1858, F W (father) Charles Mattingly, (mother) Catherine A.
