I see Charles in the home of Basil now too. Don't know why I missed that during my earlier examinations. It seems certain that there were indeed two Charles Mattingly's married to Catherine's. I wonder where Charles (the son of Basil) was during the 1850 census. Anyone found him yet? I still suspect the Charles that married Catherine Herbert was from the line of John Baptist who died in 1817. Not a son but perhaps a grandson. Maybe all this will work out in the future. Meanwhile I have some file adjusting to do. ************************* > I see a Charles Mattingly age 39 with Catherine 28 and children Nancy 2 and Mary 8/12 in the household of Basil Mattingly in Marion Co. KY in the 1860 census. This would seem to be the Charles who married Catherine Madden. I don't think this is the Charles and Catherine listed in the 1850 census with children George and Francis.
