Loogootee (IN) Tribune, Thursday, November 8, 2001 Gerald Patrick Mattingly, Sr. Dies Thursday, November 1; Funeral Held on Monday Gerald Patrick Mattingly, Sr., age 64, of Loogootee, died at 11:03 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2001 at the Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on February 28, 1937, in Daviess County, to John Ernest and Mary B. (Kavanaugh) Mattingly. He married Jacqueline "Jane" Baker on October 30, 1965 and she survives. Mr. Mattingly was retired owner-operator of Mattingly Feed Store, Inc., in Loogootee. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Chapel, in Barr Township, where he had served on the parish council, and was the secretary and treasurer of St. Mary's Cemetery. He most recently attended St. Martin's Catholic Church in Whitfield. He was a graduate of Montgomery High School in the Class of 1956 and was recipient of the Brute Society Award in 1994 through the Catholic Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran. Also surviving are one son, Gerald P. "Gerry" Mattingly, Jr., of Loogootee; four daughters, Mary Jo Gries of Solsberry, Angela Kaiser of Leavenworth, Marlena Harvey of Bloomington and Deanna Hopper of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Brett and Gage Mattingly and Katelyn Kaiser; two brothers, Joseph L. Mattingly of Loogootee, and Timothy E. Mattingly of Montgomery; four sisters, Patricia "Pat" Tow and Rita Elliott, both of Loogootee, Veronica "Bonnie" Tennis of Washington, and Alberta "Bert" Turner of Indianapolis; one uncle, George Kavanaugh of Cannelburg; and one aunt, Veronica Eichmiller of Washington. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, Norbert, John and Bernard Mattingly; five sisters Mary Alma Melton, Beatrice Sheetz, Dorothy Jean Ellis and infants, Doris Ann and Catherine Agnes Mattingly. A funeral service was held on Monday, November 5, at St. Mary's Chapel in Barr Township. Burial was made in St. Mary's Cemetery. Graveside rites were conducted by the V.F.W. and American Legion. The Brocksmith Funeral Home, Loogootee, was in charge of the final arrangements. The family suggested that memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Chapel, St. Martin's Catholic Church, or the charity of your choice. (Note: Mr. Mattingly died of an aneurysm.)
