    1. [MATTINGLY] Deed of Conveyance Henry & Sophia Mattingly
    2. William R Mattingly
    3. Following a lot of work on the part of Judith Burger and Tom Hubscher and a wee bit by myself, I have had the pleasure of posting onto the Mattingly Rootsweb board a Deed of Conveyance of Tulip Hill, dated March 17, 1846 between Henry Mattingly (of Zachariah) and Elizabeth Sophia, his wife, and Jeremiah Herbert. What interests me about this particular deed is that it clearly identifies the Henry Mattingly found in Charles County, Maryland during the 1850 census as the son of Zachariah (that is, Zachariah Mattingly, Jr., born 1790). For me, this constitutes a change in my files. I had previously carried the Henry Mattingly, found in St. Mary's County during the 1850 census as the son of Zachariah, Jr. The Henry of Charles County was first married to Elizabeth Sophia Dent with whom he had three children: Zora Sophia, Benjamin Henry, and Ann Celestia. Henry's first wife died before 1850 and during the census he was married to Eliza E. Goodrick. Thomas Hubscher is a direct descendant of Henry Mattingly and Elizabeth Sophia Dent. I must admit that I doubted Tom when he first revealed this information to me but after his father, Dennis Hubscher, found the original documents and Tom sent copies to me I quickly realized the error and contacted one person who I felt was exceptionally good at transcribing such records. That was Judith Burger of course. There are additional documents pertaining to this Henry Mattingly being transcribed at this time and will be posted when completed. As for the Henry of St. Mary's County? He reportely was a son of John. Which John that may have been is currently a mystery. The only one I've familiar with at this time was in Allegany County and I don't believe it was him. Something in the back of my mind says "Could this have been John Townly?" I don't know!
