    1. [MATTINGLY] Ky and IN Mattingly
    2. Jim Sills
    3. To: W.R. Mattingly I am new to the Mattingly-L list, but have been searching my genealogy for several years. I live in Breckinridge Co. KY and my grandmother was a Mattingly. I have searched and researched my Mattinglys. It has been either "feast or famine". I note that we have similar lineage. Thomas II b c..1650 married Elizabeth Ignatius, Sr 1704 married a Sarah Leonard, Sr 1739 married Mary "Polly" Hayden Leonard, Jr 1766 (you have 1774) married Dorothy Thompson Here, I have two of Leonard Jr's children ( first cousins married). (1) Leonard III 1828 (people called him Lennie" married Sarah A. Cusick W.T. Mattingly married Dortha Mattingly Elizabeth R. Mattingly (my grandmother) (2) Cornelius 1831 Marion Co. KY, married Julia Queen lived & died in Martin Co. IN Dortha Mattingly 7 Apr 1863 married W.T. Mattingly Elizabeth R. Mattingly (my grandmother) I was a rural family doctor for 40 years, and my genealogy searches were when I had the time....not very often. I'm retired now. Mary Ruth Bye, also of Breckinridge Co, KY , provided data that I copied. Her work is very reliable. I discovered that the parents of my grandmother were 1st cousins (while she was still alive). She often fixed my lunch, and my office was close to her home. One day I "got up the nerve" to ask her about it. With her back to me, she said "honey, they were....we just didn't talk about it". She then told me many stories about her family, parents and grand parents. Cornelius apparently moved to Indiana and married there. He seldom visited his KY family. He had three children. Leonard J. 1858, John C. 1860, and Dortha 1863. Cornelius died young 17 Jul 1864. Julia remarried Mathew Riney. When she was 19 or 20 she moved to KY at the home of her uncle Leonard III 1828, and married W.T. Mattingly (LeonardIII's son) in 1884. Leonard J. 1858 married Mary A. Corbie ( possibly Corbett, family called her "Tavey") on 23 Oct 1876 at Long Lick Church in Breck. Co. They had a daughter Ella b c..1878 I find no Leonard G. in my data, although I have Leonards, Lennie, and Lenard. These people obviously loved the name, and spelled it differently.........to confuse people like me. Lenard Mattingly 1867 was a son of Leonard III 1828, and married Ethel Conner. I'll be happy to share my data with anyone. write to [email protected] Jim Sills James G. Sills, M.D. HC 60 Box 3B Harned, KY 40144 [email protected] 270-756-2297 Destin address James G Sills 9950 W.
