There was a Thomas W. Lewis, son of William Lewis and Sarah Stuart, who was first married to Ann Mays about 1807. Ann died in 1823 and Thomas then reportedly married a Mary Mattingly. Thomas and Mary are on the 1850 census together with 5 children at home. Their son, George E. Lewis married Elizabeth McGary and I know of only one child at present; Nancy who married John M. Lewis (her 2nd cousin), a son of John Lewis and Nancy Ann Mattingly. John Lewis was a son of William R. Lewis, who was a brother to Thomas W. Lewis. I haven't been able to identify this Mary with a parent and suspect she may have been a widow, previously married to a Mattingly. I wonder if Joe Lewis is still on Rootsweb as I've communicated with him on this Mary in the past and he may have developed some leads over the past year or so. Joe is the closest to an expert on the Lewis family that I know of but I hope I don't embarrass him by saying that.
