Joe, As you probably know, there has been the "myth" for years about 3 brothers coming to America and one of them was a Charles Mattingly. I for one am inclined to believe that there may have been more Mattinglys that came to America but possibly at different times. I have found little info on other Mattinglys and I think many people have been looking for years. I did some work recently and came across a Charles Maingtn in Anne Arundel County, MD in 1701. He was a witness to a will (I can't remember for whom now). I don't know if this is Charles Mattingly or not and I haven't been able to find any other information on him (perhaps he died shortly after?). I also found a George Maininlee in Ann Arundel Co, MD in 1701 who was witnessing a will (can't remember whose) and again I have not found any info on him after that. And again, I don't know if this is actually George Mattingly or not. I also came across multiple entries in VA in the late 1600's for a John Matley/Motley/Mothly/Matlin (many, many spelling variations for the same man, I believe), a Thomas Manningne and a William Matley. I'll post more info on these late today, if I have time (busy, busy day). If anybody has any info on Mattinglys in early VA or MD, I'd appreciate hearing from them.
