Joe, I assume that you are asking about the Edward Mattenly that received payments from John Mattingly's estate. It is assumed by most that this is Edward son of Thomas III. I have had some problems with this for a while but for no particular reason. It just seems odd that John's estate would be paying money to his 2nd cousin. However, it is presumed by Edward's multiple land dealings that he was "wealthy" and if John needed a loan then his second cousin would have been as good as any. HEM hints at the possibility that there were 2 Edwards in the mid 1700's but I can't seem to find any clear evidence that this was the case. Paul
